Did you know that that pic is incorrect? Actually, the thumbs down meant he lives, and thumbs up meant he dies. Sort of like saying, "yeah, go ahead and kill him". The Romans derived that hand signal from the French, I don't know if the French did it the same way though. Anyways, some Photoshopping may be required!

It was derived by the Romans.
Thumbs down meant 'put the sword away' (i.e. save the mans life) and thumbs up meant 'keep the sword out' (i.e. finish the guy off).Comment
