one way out is to tell your dad that you waht to stay after school so you can study with one of your teachers...
I usually hang out after school anyway.. =\

My dad is active in some things I do. He too is about the only reason I'm as far as I am in BSA. All I have other than my project is Personal Finance and family life, but I honestly don't think I'll make it because of time. I'd like to, but don't think I will. I did get to OA because of him too. We actually do alot together. He likes to take me fishing. He doesn't fish, but he stays there and watches which is more than enough, especially since he doesn't have to do it anymore. We also watch NASCAR alot. We also watch Emeril alot. The only thing I wish he did more of was come to watch me play paintball more. Oh well, I'm happy with our relationship so no use complaining about the small stuff.

you'll be fine...I was like as young as they let you be when I went, smallest kid on the crew, etc...we ended up with a fairly easy trek and I had a BLAST!! As long as you do a couple shakedowns ahead of time, know what gear to have/leave, etc...you'll be fine.

lol but at least your dad's doin somethin with you, I WISH I could convince my dad that paintball is a worthwhile activity...he just thinks I'm crazy right now for spending so much money, even though I spend like the least amount out of any baller I know. :-\ Oh well, different strokes for different folks, I guess.

Heh.. I have an external frame backpack that really blows, and my dad has the same one except like more 'upgraded' or something it has some more pouches and a strap that goes across the chest conencting the sholdur straps.. well I for one find the pack fairly uncomfortable.. I mean its fine for like 3-5 milers, but I went on a 10 miler with it, and its like woah.. it is really annoying and crap.. I really want an internal frame back pack and im going to suggest to my dad that we both pick one up before philmont. I mean I kinda got the hint, my science/geography teacher uses an internal and reccommends it, and on the 10 miler I went on, my dad, another dad, and I were the only ones with externals... Yea I'll be 14 when I go to philmont, my troop diddnt go last year.. we go every 2 years I think..But yea our troop has been doing backpacking trips in the appalacian(sp) mountians and its kind of like making sure our gear is gonna be ok and stuff.. heh

Trust me, you'll love it! Philmont is the most fun I've ever had. Paintball can't hold a candle to it. You'll love it. Plus you get that cool patch...

Hey,if you want a new comfortable pack, get a Kelty. I have a kelty Yosemite(special model for a few stores) and it has probably been one of the best investments I have ever made.
It's about 4300ci(I think) yet still small enough to be nice for a short weekend trek. I've probably covered hundreds of miles with it, and not a one was uncomfortable.
I wouldn't give it up unless someone agreed to replace it with a new one or a comparably sized Gregory pack. Both companies make incredible gear and are very durable. I'd recommend Kelty personally, but Gregory is good too. Check em both out.

Yeah, kelty might be good for you because they make a lot of women's packs. I'm not flaming ya, but I think you ought to check into the ladies packs! They might fit you better if you're 14! We had an 80lb kid when we went out, and he did OK...he just complained a lot!

The other boys shut him up after a few days, but he would still say things like, "I'm only s'posed to be carrying one quarter of my body weight! How can you possibly expect me to carry a 35lb pack!!" I wanted to slap him myself! One boy was carrying a 50lb pack and kept smiling anyway! Have fun, man!

My dad's pushing me really hard to get my Eagle, I'm a Life, and need to finish Personal Fitness and a Project to finish Eagle... I'd have stopped long ago without his help.
I didn't do it on my own... My Scoutmaster, Allan Larsen, help me get it. I wasn't even involved in scouts until I was like 16. It was only with his help and encouragment I was able to attain the Eagle in around 2 years! That's like a record?
But, no, my Dad didn't help me.

My Eagle court of honor was probably the most gratifying experience of my life. I hold more importance on that Court of Honor than I hold for my high school graduation. I strongly encourage you all to strive for this award.

                          We can fix that!

BTW: At Philmont, I used a North Face. I didn't have any problems with it.

                            Hehe.. womans pack..
Like I said above, my teacher works at REI and they carry kelty so he might be able to hook me up with a deal, or maybe just suggest packs.. he does alot of hiking and stuff..
Eagle in two years is impressive! Considering you have to hold a position for (6?) months in both star and life..
Dang.. that must have been tough.. not to mention all those merit badges

Yeah, 2 years to get eagle = no life outside of scouts for two years.

I've been life for, let's see, JUST ABOOT 3 years now...my dad's really on my back to finish these last 2 badges and then my project...ooh, at least i don't hafta wait till i get eagle to get my driver's license!!
