Among other "lessons for life" like, "call your mom" and "keep your promises" and "strive for excelence, not perfection" is this one, " take responciblility for every aspect of your life, stop blaming others". This one stuck hard, cause I like to make my faults look like other ppls faults. I HATE to admit to being the cause of a problem. I think everyone should have that little phrase stapled to their head, cause believe it or not sueing the tabacco companies becasue you got lung cancer or blaming drinking comercials for your alcohol problem is exactly that. You're blaming others. It's not Mc Donalds fault that you spilled hot coffee on your lap, it's not Lego's fault you let your kid choke on small parts, duh, it's not Chevy's fault for making a car that goes faster then 120 and not making it controlable at those speeds, it's not your neighbors dogs fault you teased it and it bit you.
      It's YOUR FAULT.

My parents taught me how to drink at an early age.

Throughout high school and middle school, it was pummeled into my mind to stay away from drinking, drugs, and gangs.

Everyday they would drive it into me with stories and consequences. Yes, it did get annoying, but I learned.

Because they taught me to drink earlier than many of my friends, it lost its 'coolness'. When I got to college, many around me had this new freedom. Alcohol was a novelty to them. For me, it was just another beverage to consume and enjoy.

A lot of kids that I met then are not in school today. Most of them had to transfer out or quit school entirely.

I was taught to drink responsibly. I was also taught that the appropriate times are for celebration and maybe a beer once in a while just to drink a beer for its company.

I get drunk maybe once or twice a year, after final exams.

I was taught not only to drink responsibly and in moderation, but to also have a place to sleep. My parents prefer that I sleep where I drink (like a friends house, not a bar ) but a sober ride is also a good option. There are too many dumb people out there. It's always safer to stay in after the bars are out.

My dad always said, "Be smart." I've amended his sage words to, "Don't be stupid." Even smart people can be stupid.

Because my parents are really old school, my sisters didn't get the same 'okay to drink' so I had to instruct my little sister. I had to teach her about date rape, liquid G, and other scary stuff about drinking and dating.

I showed her how easily I could slip something into her drink. It annoyed the crap out of her, but she knew that what she needed to learn was important. There are crazy people who look normal. Girls aren't safe even around some of their guy friends sometimes.

There are too many dumb people out there. I hated my parents for being really hard on me. But I love them for that. Because of them and what they taught me, I have a future.

Man, whatever happened to parents buckling down and whuppin some ***? Seems like parents were more hands on back in the day.

EDIT: Heat, I LOVED your last post. Although very true, it made me laugh. There's something about suing McDonalds for burning your crotch and winning $80,000,000 that makes me laugh.

I feel sorry for anyone who is the victim of a drunk driver, but as for the drunk, Darwinism hard at work.

Nothing wrong with drinking itsself, but too many people are idiots.

It's shame that there are so many thoughtless and irresponsible people when it comes to drinking and driving. Many don't take the time to think of the consequences of their drinking that they could do to themselves, let alone others. It's a shame someone's life is totally changed because of the wrongdoing of another.

Don't drink and drive, EVER. Be responsible, be smart. Think about what your actions of drinking and driving could not only do to yourself, but to others. Don't drink and drive.

I dont agree with the blanket idea that you are more likely to make the decision to drive drunk because you are impaired with alcohol. The only time that is true is if you haven't made a decision before you started drinking.

You have to either not care, barely care, or just be plain stupid to make a decision that potentially dangerous when drinking, even if you "cant control yourself" while drunk (which is BS anyways).

If that's so much BS then why do drunk drivers swerve and can't walk a straight line. some people can stay in "control" when over the legal limit but more then a few can't.
