    networking question about linksys router

i have a linksys BEFSR41 V.2 router with a 4 port switch. i have the cable from my modem going into the uplink port, and a cable going to my computer and a cable going to my xbox/ps2 in ports 4 and 3. in the manual it says i'm supposed to type http://192.168.1.1 to access the routers web based configuration utility, but when i try to connect it says the page cant be found. is there any way to find out how to get into it, cause i need to enable some ports in the firewall so i can play xbox online. should i update the firmware?

try just having the computer connected to the router to one of the ports 1 - 4. Don't connect the cable to the uplink, don't connect any xbox or ps2....just the pc to the router thats it.

    see if that works..

Plug the cable from the modem into the WAN port *not* the UPLINK port.

Your modem shouldn't be plugged into the uplink. It should be plugged in where it says "WAN" or "Wide-Area Network".

You ned to configure what type of connection to use. Under the "Setup" tab, change the WAN connection type to the type of connection your using. Alot of DSL providers are using the PPPoE type. For that type of connection, enter your username and password. If you have a static IP, enter values in all fields. The values can be found in your nework properties.
