PS2 is acting up, any help?

Hey, Lilsnowpixie just got me Mallrats for V-day and I decided to watch it tonite. Well, I go into my bros room to watch it on his PS2. I get everything going but when it gets to the options screen, it shakes and skips. The disc is brand new so It's not like it's scratched. Anyone know anything about PS2s, or atlease how to fix my problem. thanks.

If you haven't messed with it so far, Don't open it up, it might be worth it to call up Sony and send it in.

My PS2 was acting up on me all last year and I got it repaired for free by Sony, the only cost was shipping. Call them and say that it is all messed up. Supposedly, the first generation of PS2's (like mine) were made with defects in them that make them not run very well after a while. Alot of people complained and Sony denied that there were defects but not until the Summer did they do repairs on them for free, to avert a lawsuit that was going to be filed.
Just call them and tell them to fix it for free and put the pressure on the rep.

Check your DVD. If you see a little ring anywhere on the disc, your laser lens may have gotten too close to the surface and scratched it. It's a semi-common problem in the earlier PS2s. I think SONY still fixes that problem.

Also remember to turn off your PS2 to let it cool down. We go through PS2s like crazy at work cause we have to leave them on for weeks at at time. Average reliable life of a PS2 at my work is 6 months. After that they get...quirky.

Hope this helps...Would you like a chocolate covered pretzel?

Mine used to act up. It got to the point where it wouldn't read the blue discs, or audio CDs. I just bought a little CD-Lensecleaner and put that in. It worked fine after that. I put it in every once in a while now. I think my PS2 is one of the old ones too, I got it the day it came out.

The ps2 not playing certain movies is really a myth, DVD's only play on the region they are made for, like if you buy a DVD in japan, its not gonna play on your Run of the mill Sony one, or one in Euope, same way! taht is if your tryong to play it on an american one...

If I were you I'd send it to your local repair place (authorized by Sony of course). When my PS2 broke down I sent it to my local sony-repair/maintenance place, they did everything for free.
