in a car, you hit another car and stop and your car gets crapped up, and you are stuck inside. on a motorcycle you fly off your bike and go skidding for a while then hit something else with just your body (tree, car, ect.) its not really more dangerous, just different.... i think

yeah. it is more dangerous. you really have to keep your eyes open for all the wackos on the road. luckily my dad rides motorcycles, so i got my cycle permit within a week of getting my liscence. offer to take an MSF training course, they help a lot, and get you discounts on insurance.
as for saving money, i'm looking at getting a kawasaki 250 ninja, that gets 55-75 mpg...that'll save a ton in gas : DComment

No amount of statistics will sway resolute parents; especially when it comes to something as dangerous as motorcycles. IMHO, master four wheels before you even contemplate two.
I had a Ninja 250 for my first bike. It was a fun toy, but nothing more. I ending up selling it in favor of the 97' ZX6 I currently own.Shoot it like you stole it!

your best bet is to look into a MSF course... aka rider traing course..... for us the local one is held at either the hampden ponds plaza or and the base at barnes.....
if you can talk one of your parents into taking the course with you.... at the least it will help them be more aware of bikes in general, and passing the course has its beni's also.... discount on insurance, dont need to take the road test at the RMV and it will teach how to ride in a safe manor....
myself i got my permit last year and just sent in my reg and check for the course today... so i'll either be taking it april 11-13th or may 9-11th....
if you can get them to go along with this route and they let you get a bike after you complete the class do get a smaller baike to use for the first year or so.... used bikes are fairly cheap esp for 500cc and smaller bikes.... myself i scored a great deal on an 82' kawi 440ltd that only had 82 miles on it.... needless to say i put about 800 miles on it in 2 months but i used that as a gauge to feel out riding for myself......
here is the link for the rider course in our area
motorcycle rider traing course
go there read up on what you can and dont pester your parents too much... that might through them off.... but introducing the idea of the traing course to them will show that you are concerned about being safe on a bike and that you are willing to even take a traing course on it.... also being under 21 the course will be cheaper for you to take also....
good luckVirus, King of the Basement Trollz has spoken

I wanted a bike, until I move to a Ohio.. Dad is buying us a set of dirt bikes in spring and I am buying myself a fun car.
Riding a bike isn't THAT fun, since you still have to obey traffic signals, etc. I figured that out after I started snowmobiling, ripping down trials @ 60 MPH for hours at a time.. no car or street bike can EVER compete with that, hence why people buy these rec TOYS.Comment

ya i know that but im going for gas eficientcy and rec... i was never a speed demon... well since the ideas been shot down many times now im gunna see if my dad will let me fix the old triumpth spitfire we have. its a convertible and will be funn.Originally posted by irbodden
