How would you build your Army?

Heres some military discussion that doesnt deal with the War. :P
    Question:
If you were a small rich country and you were building your armed forces, what hardware(and from whom) would you purchase? The only restriction is you cant buy from the US or use US weapons/vehicles.

So lets hear it. What Main Battle Tank would you get? APC? Artillery? What about your Air Force? Air defense? How would you equip the foot soldier? Etc...

Yea, I'll agree. A small, elite, well trained army. I've learned, after countless hours of playing Command and conquer(including three all nighters last summer), that a large generally weak army is about as potent as it's own weight in Peanut butter. I'd go to HK for small arms. The Brits for tanks and vehicles. The iraqis for cheap bio-weapons. And finally, the Japanese for my throwing stars.

Yep, I would reccomend playing Red Alert 2 as well... Heck, I think if our "Generals" were to play it, they would come up with whole new tactics! I mean, all you need is a weather control device, or a Chronosphere and you can take on anyone!

            Small, moblie and quick.

Forget crap like the Abrahams. I love them and all but those things are just a logistical nightmare (no offense Army).

Think a couple units of PAladin moblie cannon systems, supporting a mechanized infantry using bradleys and mavs which have air support from blackhawks and some version of the apache or other helo-based gunship platform. And just for sheer coolness ya gotta have a couple of the A-10 Warthogs. Ugly as all get out but can totaly ruin a tanks day.

Of course, everything I just listed was US military stuff so I'l leave it to you to find equivalent non-US items see as how I know diddly-squat of non-US military stuff.

It's already happened and our American generals couldn't handle it. According to this weeks Newsweek a Marine officer, I believe he was a general, played Saddam in a wargame last year. HE turned the tables on the allied commanders and launched suicide attacks against the vessels bringing the troops to shore. This old Marine caused so much havoc and confusion that the game had to be stopped and restarted because the other opposing commanders felt that "Saddam" wasn't playing fairly.

The Marine walked out in disgust.

If that is true, then I think my bomb shelter idea may yet become a reality. It's a little frightening to think our top military brass cannot deal with the classic suicide attack. And yes, I'm serious. Because from the sound of it, The marine knew what we might be dealing with.

I would buy the Challenger 2 as a main battle tank, my main infantry rifle would be the Russian (the newest one they have can't think of the name) (I think AN something, but not sure)

Steyr and HK small arms, British tanks and support vehicles, Russian fighters (MIGs), etc.

Lots and LOTS of cruise missiles and rocket artillery.

Of course this is just off the top of my head, and is based on little to no real data.

                        Robots. Lots of robots.

If the country is so rich, it would be feasible. Think of the Predator on a much larger and broader scale.

Ground, air, and sea robots. Very small targets to hit and even harder to see.

The robots would be controlled by other robots. But most likely by people.

Does the hardware actually have to exist? If not:

I'd have ground troops outfitted with the new 20mm cannon/7.6mm assault rifle combo. Battle armor would be flexible under normal conditions, yet instantly stiffens under very rapid loading(hit by a bullet.) For a better idea of what I'm talking about, hit silly putty with a hammer. I would also like to see all of the soldiers' electronics powered by body heat somehow(no more batteries, and reduce the IR signature at the same time!). I'd do away with helicopters, and replace them with some type of jump jet that isn't so vulnerable.(think VTOL A-10, with troop carrying capacity!)

Instead of cruise missiles and artillery, I would have a bunch of huge uranium rods in orbit around the planet, with guidance systems on each rod. They simply fall out of orbit onto their target. These rods could penetrate any bunker and hit with the force of a tactical nuke. Note: this is the "Rods of God" concept, I didn't come up with it. The only trick would be getting that much mass up there.

Furthermore, I'd like to advance the frontier of biological warfare. Viruses designed to target the ethicity of our enemy would allow our soldiers to engage an enemy that is dying before we even see them. Or go one step further and make them nanomachines!

As far as tanks go, I'd want conventional cannons replaced with railguns slaved to magnetic resonance targeting systems.(see through walls)

Fighter aircraft would be unmanned, as the human body is what currently limits aircraft performance. They would also be able to be launched from and landed on submarines.
I'm nothing more than text to you...

Yes it would have to exist as of today and be made by another country.
