    welding equipment?

Is anyone here a welder, or atlease knows a thing or two about it? I am taking a welding class at school and it really interests me and I think I'd like to buy my own stuff so I can work at home too. I am trying to stay away from oxy-fuel stuff because I've found I don't have the patience to sit and pre-heat stuff. Plus, I am better with arc welding anyway. I am just looking for a simple, small, light duty mig or even gasless arc welding rig. Wirefeed is preferred. Anyone have any experience? thanks.

For the money, a Lincoln Weld Pac 100 is the best deal. It will weld up to 1/2" steel using standard 120vac. I use one everyday as my portable. It uses cored wire with flux in it called "Innershield". There is also a conversion kit for a DC Mig setup using ARCO2, and it can do stainless and aluminum(not very good). Its a great little machine and will suit most needs. My shop welder is a Lincoln SP 250 Magnum. Its fully automatic, and can weld 22 gauge without burning through every time. This is a great machine too, but alot more expensive. Let me know if you need anymore info.

Lincolns are good, but Millers are better

I learned on Miller equipment, but now use predominately Lincoln. With the gas-conversion, Do you think the Lincoln Weld-pac 100 could do altease a decent job on square Aluminum tubing? I have a few projects(mostly relating to my Jeep) that would be to costly to get done profesionally.
