    Password protect Win98?

PClock is nice, but it's a 30 day trial. I'm sick of people treating my computer like crap, MY COMPUTER. I'm locking them away from it, any suggestions.

    Thanks,

Clicking "Cancel" will get you bye it. Just password saved stuff won't work.

Oh win 98 ... ew You should try editing the registry or (in crappier programs) the program itself to get rid of the 30 day trial. Or buy a winNT based windows.

            bios password

now if someone already has the system admin pw for themsleves.... then you either know how to defeat that to reset it.... or there will always be someone that can get in....

                3 choices.

Bios Pword, which will mean that only you can use it.

Upgrade to XP, which I currently use. It's pword protection can't be bypassed like 98SE can, however it can be a bit tricky to deal with. I only play AAO and DAOC and I have no problems but I did just recently have to go through an whole HD reformat due to a device driver conflict issue.

Third is to use a third party program like Iomations's "PASSWORD DOOR" which is a very cool program. It doesn't pword the entire computer but rather pwords specific programs. Not sure if it will allow you to pword specific folders so that multiple users can use the same program, say Word, but have protected folders to store their work in progress in. I shot off a quick letter to their support team and will let you know their answer.

I agree with the rest, use a BIOS pw Just get into the BIOS (should say which button to press on bootup) and find the "Password" option. It should give you "On Boot" or "On Setup" or something to that effect. I forgot what mine says. To make a long story short choose the "On Boot" option and make sure you set the password before you choose it!

About the bios password, I swore I already tried that and that only promts your for a password to enter bios..

Either way, it's protected now, god knows how much my computer would be screwed up if they could get into BIOS. Already had to reinstall windows and lost all my files because of their ignorance. Lost of bunch of good files.

And.. 98SE is the ONLY OS. 98SE OWNS you.

now if that were only true.... i'll admit it does a 1/2way decent job of pretending to be an OS...... still runs on top of dos.... mmmmmm.... dos i miss dos, dos was good

there are 2 types of passwords in the bios..... system admin/supervisor.... and user level.... on some mobos you may need to use both as the sysadmin one may only prevent access to the bios and the user pw to the rest of the computer.... i had one like that once.... got to be a real pain for a while.... but i kinda miss that dx2-80 =)

Not very secure though, they almost always have a backdoor that is make publically known so some idiot can't lock himself out. There are huge lists all over the internet with the backdoors to every bios out there.
