The vast majority of useful inventions/innovations/designs have come from America. But as someone stated before Japan just makes things faster, smaller and more efficient.

I do have to give it to Japan in the animation department. America will never produce cartoons of alien tentacles raping schoolgirls, as well as Japan! :)

for example the laserdisk/cd is sony/philips

The Japanese were the leaders in computer graphics for a
long time until taken over by the Canadians (at least in
the consumer market)

the Taiwanese are the current leaders in motherboard manufacture AND design.

If you want a minature soleniod valve you pretty much
have to buy from a Japanese company.
