Can you choose a plan without buying phones? AT&T

My family is looking for a shared cell phone plan and I found the AT&T plan the most appealing. But if you have your own phone(s), do you have to buy new phones anyways? Is there anyway just to sign up for the plan or the plan with 3 lines and 2 phones?

You dont need to buy a new phone, just transfer accounts, go to your local At&t store, they will take care of you. I have dont it before with no hassle. All they do, is take the plan and the number of the old phone, put it on the new phone. You also get to keep your old phone to.

actually, not true, they have to be programmed for the network and have network support. there are different types of networks, like CDMA and GSM, not all phones support the same network. Also, most family plans come with free phones.

Spring valley wireless is offering their top of the line phone for free when you bring in an old and/or outdated phone and sign a 12 month contract. That's actually pretty good considering most cellular providers ask for a contract up to 18 months!! And since they are a cell phone broker they have access to plans ranging from uscc to att to nextel... you name it. I'll be talking to them on monday because I live on my phone.

I think the going standart is cdma. it's slowly replacing the old tdma networks nation wide.

If it is for your family, then check out Nextel if it is in your area... Very cool... I like being a beep away instead of having to dial the number...

I believe all the major providers have some sort of plans for family with phones included. Most should at least give some sort of discount with the phones. Check your Sunday paper, and look through the ads of electronic stores like Best Buy, Circuit City, Radio Shack or whatever stores you have in your area.
