it wont promote peace. saddam needs to be removed, but NOT in this way, the cost is too great, and the uncertainties are too high. there ARE alternatives, there are better and cheaper ways, such as promoting usurpation. it will be 100 billion dollars WITHOUT including the decades of rebuilding iraq. we cannot go into war alone, we cannot act this way, and we cannot continue on our path. saddam MUST be removed, but NOT in this way.

edit: ps. didya know it would be cheaper to buy iraq then it would be to wage war against them?? itd be less then 100 billion dollars to buy the country intact. or you could just pay 1 billion dollars to some family to kidnap saddam and keep him alive, barely, in a closet. or hell, pay a country 50 billion dollars to give saddam citizenship and amnesty, and then keep him in jail for life. just some nice alternatives that should be discussed

here's a few things. First off, in order to make a purchase, there has to be a willing buyer and a willing seller. Don't have a willing seller in this case. Saddam has also pretty much said that he won't leave the country. He might as well have put his head in a guillotine. Oh, and what about those that are loyal to saddam? I don't think someone can just Walk up and kidnap him. Not to mention he's got look-alikes hired because he's paranoid of his own people.

Promoting Userpation could just lead to another Saddam. Heck, it might be one of his sons for all we know. By going in this way, at least we can attempt to create a democracy that serves the Iraqi people.

I don't think people should be putting a price tag on this either. Yes, 80 billion dollars is a lot of money, but put it into perspective. Were'nt the last GDP numbers in the trillions?

Can you really put a price tag on the safety of you and your family? What about preserving your way of life?
