    Any Jeep Cherokee Fans?

I am looking at getting a red 1998 Jeep Cherokee with 45k miles for ~$9,500 ... I liked it on the test drive, but wanted to know if anyone here drives/drove one and what you think of them ...

    Thanks,

I have a '90 Cherokee Pioneer. It's a love/hate relationship really. It is not the most comfortable vehicle for a long trip, but if you plan to go 4 wheeling, it is perfect. Mine has 275,000 miles and is on engine #2 and it still works great. I highly recommend one.

'96 with 38k. 4.0l and two wheel drive (not a lot of need for 4by in Santa Barbara).

Agreed, it's not a long distance comfort-mobile, but is more than adequate for off-road duties.

Only have had the water pump go out, and the intermittent wiper control failed years ago (big deal). Best thing about mine, is all that power goes to only the rear wheels. I've bested a few silly boys in their wheel spinners, thinking I had a 4by dog

We had a nice '99 Cherokee until my mom rolled it. Since it had such a sturdy frame my mom was able to walk away from the accident without a scratch on her. Definently one of the best cars we've had.

I've got a red 1999 jeep cherokee 4.0L and I love the big thing. We got extremely lucky in purchasing it last december right before the record snowfall in the DC area. 4WD in this jeep is extremely solid, and I was able to drive, completely stock, in 9-10" of snow with very little problem. Its fun to be the only one on the road. =) Mine had 60k and we got it for $9k.

But she's a gas hog, getting around 14 mpg city and ~21 highway (due to the crazy-high 4th gear ratio): the big 4 liter has power to burn. My biggest gripe is the automatic tranny. I miss my clutch =(

Only trouble so far was needing to replace the booster cyllinder in the brake assembly; I think the previous owner rode the brakes alot.

Either way, I love my jeep and I hope you have favorible experiences with yours!

I'm looking at some jeep grand cherokees, a little older than 98 though, from what ive seen and heard from talking to the mechanics i know jeeps are supposed to be nice. THe engines in those things last forever. But the grand cherokes tend to have some electrical problems that the cherokees and wranglers don't in their older age. Where did you find that hood and grill gaurd on that grand cherokee BTW, those are sweet.
