    Gasp... What do you use your computer for?

    Go with 256 and get XP. It will be stable and compatible, giving you no problems for the most part.

      The term 'PC' can apply to anything from x86 machines, to Amigas, to Macs, etc...

      But it's common vernacular to call an x86 machine, a PC. Not common to call anything else a PC.

      You can always get a copy of VirtualPC for the Mac, which works pretty well... although not nearly as fast as a real PC.

        If I wasn't going to be a hard-core gamer, I would get linux. I have something against macs, I can't really narrow it down though.

          Dont go with Win98, get Win2K or WinXP ... theyre much more stable. Not to mention Win98 loses resources slowly and doesn't give em back so you have to restart to get em back.

          Go with Win2K or WinXP ... both run fine with 256megs of memory. I actually only have 256megs on my XP Pro machine right now since I'm replacing two modules that went bad when my power supply went out.
