Are you wanting to know which ones are there or what? You have kind of a confusing question since there are a number of units over there ...

Division is the biggest with there being Three Active Divisions and one reserve ...

1st MarDiv out of Cali (Supported by 3rd Marine Air Wing)
2nd MarDiv out of North Carolina (2nd MAW)
3rd MarDiv out of Okinawa (1st MAW)

Then you have several battalions with in the divison ...

Now this is only on the grunt side so to speak ... in the Wing you have

          Wing
          Group
          Squadron

          Such as MWSS-274, MWSG-27, 2nd MAW ....

Also to help clear up somethings ... in the news you hear them saying the 15thMEU has done this or the 1stMEF has dont that ... what they are talking about here is what is called a MAGTF ... Marines deploy in units called MAGTF'f or Marine Air Ground Task Force ...

          Each MAGTF is comprised of the following;
          Ground Combat Element
          Air Combat Element (or ACE)
          Service Support Ground
          Headquarters Element ...

          MAGTF's come in three sizes;

MEU (Marine Expeditionary Force) the smallest
MEB (Marine Expeditionary Brigade) up until recently they didnt have too many of these.
MEF (Marine Expeditionary Force) the biggest ....

The 15th MEU is a smaller force of the 1stMEF which is made up of Elements of the 1st MarDiv, 1st FSSG (Force Service Support Group), and 3rd MAW (Air Wing) ...

You will also hear about MEU(SOC)'s which are Marine Expeditionary Unit(Special Operations Capable) ... these are MEU's which have completed special training and exercises that qualify them for more advanced special operations ... such as the TRAP (Tactical Recovery of Aircraft and Personnel) mission to resuce O'grady several years ago. The movement now is convert all MEU's to MEU(SOC)'s ... Marines prefering to fight in smaller more mobile units when possible.

            Pinnacle Woods..

someone from Team Friction theatened to 'beat me up' at a tourney that is rescheduled for April..

You asked a simple question that has been answered, so I don't feel this is 'hijacking' the thread.

Ok when they say 8th marines think of it as a Major headding.

2nd battalion is a sub unit within each numbered division

                    Division>Battalion... and so on...

im USAF but have some Navy experience to throw a little light on this

If i was to break down my forse structure it would look like this

                    USAF
                    19th AF
AETC (Air education and training command)
                    56th Fighter Wing
                    56 AMXS (Aircraft maintence Squadron)
309th AMU (Aircraft Maint Unit for 309th Fighter Squadron)
                    Weapons Section (50ish of us)

No that means 8th Marine Regiment ...

There are only 3 active Marine Divisions and 1 reserve division ...

If I remember correctly (man I cant believe I dont fully remember ...)

Corps -- 3 Active Divisions plus 1 Reserve Division plus their associated Wing, Support, and Command Elements.
                        Division
                        Battalion
                        Regiment
Company -- 3-4 Platoons plus Company Commander(Typically Captain)
Platoon -- 3 Squads plus Platoon Sergeant and Platoon Commander(Typically LT or junior Captain)
Squad -- 3 Fire Teams plus Squad Leader(Typically a Corporal or Senior Lance Corporal)
Fire Team -- 4 Marines to a fire team; 2 Riflemen, 1 Automatic Rifleman, 1 Fire Team Leader(Typically Lance Corporal or Corporal).
                        Individual Marine

Hopefully that clears up somewhat ... what unit is her b/f with?

Also if you PM me his name and rank I may be able to find it out also for you.
