How do I stop those windows security messages?

Does anyone know where those messages are comming from that randomly pop up with advertisments? They are all grey and only have text. It's gotta be something new that XP uses.

I wanna a.) stop the messages and b.) spamm the ip's that I got already with floods of messages

I know it's not gator or anything like that.

I was getting them for a while. Just by chance I ended up having to format my HD, which fixed the problem.

    You could always try ad-aware.

Control Panel > Admin Tools > Services

You're looking for the Messenger service.
Double Click on it to bring up its properties.
      Change Startup Type to Disabled.
      Click the Stop Button.
      Click Apply Button.
      Click OK Button.

That will kill the Messenger service and prevent it from starting again when you reboot.

The messenger service is a tool used by administrators to disseminate netowrk info (like shutting down a server for maintenance), so if you're in a corporae network or the like, you may want to check with your admin before doing this...

Are you sure you changed the StartUp type to 'Disabled'? This keeps it from starting when the computer boots.

Another thing to consider is a multi-user issue. Do you use multiple user names on that computer? It may need to be disabled for EVERY user. I'm not real sure.

I would try setting to to disabled again and the restart the computer immediately. Maybe the power flickered or something and Windows didn't shut down properly. We all know what it's like when THAT happens!

                        What about a firewall?

According to my prelim tests the port you want to 'block' is 1028.

I figured this using a protocol analyzer while sending several 'Net Send' messages across my local network. The destination port is 1028.

Really though, that SHOULD work! It did on mine. Verify that you did everything correctly, and I'll dig some more.
