half life problem

i seem to be having a problem playing LAN/internet games on half life and digital paintball. i just got half life game of the year edition, and when i click play internet game (or whatever it says) it says that my halflife executable is out of date, i say ok, and it then says check for updates on teh internet? i say yes..and when it "veryfies my internet connection", i get this message (picture attatched)

pete beat me to it. Dont use the automatic update, go to a site and get the 1110.exe patch.

You have to install counter-strike

To join a Digital Paintball game, under the filter section, click on the box next to "Must be running game:" and on the drop down list select dpb.

Ive never seen that before, but it looks like the server's problem and not yours. Is that the only server you have tried?

Yes, hardly any one gets that problem espo. I have got it onces out of 3 years, and that was when a friend made a server and I joined. So, its the servers problems, not yours. But if it keeps saying that to you, then your lucked out.

ok. lets start this up right.

First, go to "add/ remove programs" and pull off anything "sierra" or "halflife" then go the the Halflife directory and delete it, default is "sierra/halflife"

NOW go and download the hl upgrade to version 1.1.1.0
filename: hlsw_1_0_0_setup.exe
while your getting that find the counterstrike file to version 1.5
filename: csv15full.exe
then go get the fusionpack v.10 from here
filename: fusion_pack_v10_final.exe

then get the halflife server launcher version 1.0.0
filename: hlsw_1_0_0_setup.exe

NOW
install halflife
install the halflife upgrade in the same directory
install cs in the same directory
install the fusion pack using the "custom install" and point it to the halflife root again
install HLSW where ever you want.

now launch halflife and try either a game of ricochet, CS, tfc. once you enter the CD key and played a game then you KNOW it works and it's not a faulty patch you installed. Download the paintball mod and install it to the hlaflife directory again. now try it and see if it works. if it does exit hte game and launch hlsw. Go to settings -> settings and make sure it found the halflife executable. default is c:\sierra\halflife\hl.exe
now find some cool servers and type them in the HLSW. now where ever you decide to play you can just click on the server and it will launch HL and go through all the crap of conneting to a server for you and as an added feature it will tell you BEFORE you join if your buddy is playing, what the connetion speed is like and you can now alt+tab out of the game and alt+tab back in
HLSW works for every halflife mod including the paintball thingy
