    Pop-up Blocker!!!

I hate them more than anything right now. Do any of you out there in cyber space know of a resoanbly decent pop blocker (for free). I have been downloading some, but they are'nt that great (I know they're free), but i have yet to find one that actually works well.

Also, does anyone know of something to get rid of the STUPID Microsoft Messenger Service thing that they have on windows XP, i absolutely hate it.

FYI, during the course of writting this (under two minutes) at least three popups hit me; is it just me or are you guys hit this much?

Well this is gonna get moved pretty soon...wake up Bob But as its here...pop ups? I don't get any on this site if there are any ??? But then I have Norton installed and that has some settings to block stuff but then I PAID for it As for messenger settings you can open the thing up and disable it so that it will only start when you want it to...same as any other program you install...you choose when it runs or not as the case may be it is under Options and then Preferences

Smegma you are getting so many popups because you have Adware programs installed on your computer. There are many ways for them to get there. They may have been bundled with a program you downloaded or purchased. What you really need is a spyware remover. I use AD-Aware 6 which I downloaded from Kazaa. Make sure you download one that comes with a Keygen. Ad-Aware is pretty sweet. It blocks spyware and browser hyjack attempts in addition to cleaning your HD of those pesky programs. Or you can search the web and download a freeware spyware remover. Anyone who uses the internet should have some type of spyware remover/blocker. In your case smegma I am willing to bet that there are more that 200 spyware programs on your computer.

A simple answer to your simple question: POW! go to www.downloads.com and search "pow"... it works wonders, as long as you don't have an oldish computer with resources that run out faster than I get shot out in a speedball game.

I have Guidescope on my computer. My dad and sister use the built-in ad-blocker from Zone Alarm. You should also run Ad-Aware to get rid of any stuff that's on your computer.
Phil - Ad-Aware is free, from the company, from the link above. No need to download it from Kazaa. Kazaa is probably where you're pop-up problem came from (unless you're using Kazaa-lite).

I find this program very helpful - more so than adaware

Also - if you run the mozilla browser - you can turn off popups - nice...

Yes Ad-aware is free but the free version has stuff blocked out and that bugs me. Even if I have no intention of using the blocked out features I still have to try to crack it. I removed all of the crap right away that comes with Kazaa that causes popups. Once you clean away the extra crap you only get popups while Kazaa is active.

I tried Mozilla and I thought it was crap...

Use spybot search and destroy. It's much much better then ad aware. More features too.

I disagree. I switched from spybot to ad-aware. I cleaned my computer with spybot then immediately cleaned it again with ad-aware. Ad-aware found 18 additional programs to squash. I really like the adwatch feature that continuously blocks new attempts to write unwanted crap to my HD.

                            wat exactly are those "programs"?

ad aware or w/e just deleted like 450 of them off my computer.

I used adaware and spybot. If you run them both, they should get rid of most of the junk on your computer. Of course, you could do it the fun way and just wipe the whole disk out and start fresh! I love the feeling of a nice free, clean system. If your using spybot, or adaware, make sure you have the most recent version.
