This wars a pretty odd one, there's plenty of great things that came out of it, plenty of uneasiness as far as the future goes and some questionable motives.
Lemme explain, its great that saddam is gone, he did after all kill 3 million iraqi's and exile another 6 million in what, 20 years? Now the iraqi people have freedom, and a future but we don't know how american influenced it will be, (probably not much) or what will happen. However, Bush's motives for starting the war were sketchy. He claimed they had biological and chemical weapons, which we have found none of, only gas masks and pesticides. Of course you could say that the iraqi's destroyed them to make us look bad, but wouldn't there be some kind of evidence of that? Also, there was the whole "little Bush" comment from saddam that may have sparked some resentment.
The oil thing doesn't seem to big but I think the main reason was to boost his chances of being re-elected. Generally the approval ratings of presidents goes up during war times and they can get away with more crap. By crap I mean like how Bush promised environmental policies and did just the opposite and how he's making the same mistake his father did by cutting taxes on the rich to help the economy (it doesn't work!). Wars work to boost approval ratings because you get the whole supporting or troops means supporting our president thought, which isn't true at all. Our troops risking their lives for the country and the president are two different things.
Frankly I was/am for the war, it freed tens of millions of iraqi's, but we need to look at all the motives behind it. My policy has always gone as follows; criticize and question everything. If you don't then the govnerment can stop doing it's job, serving the people.
