I agree that there needs to be more restrictions younger drivers and the ones that have been done here in washington have helped quite a bit. But raising the legal driving age isn't necessarily gonna help the problem.Heck my friend who got his license when he was 18 got in an accident which was his fault the 3rd week he had his license and he'd had his premit since he was 15 1/2.

I just think that more requirements need to be made to make it through driving school and more standards need to be set on how the driving tests are actually scored. I also think that a follow up test should be required to renue your license or something along those lines just to make sure everyone is up to speed on the rules of the road.

I don't quite understand what raising the age would accomplish...

What WOULD work, and what SHOULD be done, is making it harder to get a license. I mean comeon, the tests are a joke! You could be a horrible driver, and if you can drive in a straight line you pass. Its horrible!

There are tons of bad drivers out there NOT BECAUSE THEY ARE TEENAGERS, but because they are INEXPERIENCED! I'm 16, I have my license, and I have experience. An 18 year old with the same amount of experience is (generally) not going to be a better driver than me!

I DO agree something should be done to make the roads safer.

Yes, I'm 18 years old; to be 19 soon.

And yes, I'd be rather unhappy but I could deal with it. The seattle-metro area has a very good bus system.

Lastly, Yes, you should watch your *** when I'm on the road. I've done some stupid stuff myself, mainly making sharp turns on wet roads. It's nearly gotten me in an accident.

Which is my point exactly. I (at the time) was not ready to be on the road. At my driving school they tell you "If your breaks lock up, let go and re-pressure the breaks once they stop locking up" well, gee when you're panicked like I was it's a bit difficult as your first reaction is to continue to slam on them.

Driving schools and driving test only prepare you to drive in the most pristine driving conditions. They don't test you on how well you deal with not-so plesant conditions such as icy roads or people that run red-lights.

I really didn't need to start driving until I turned 18 and even now I could probably live without one.

Well inexperiance is a huge factor. But lets not forget that driving is a SKILL. Kinda like pool or golf or something. Some people are good, some people are good with practice and experiance, some people will just SUCK no matter what......
