    Guitarists

I'm brand new to guitars and I plan on getting a guitar. I have been thinking of getting an Ibanez that is red. I want a cheap guitar that I can just sell if I find out I hate guitaring. But I don't want it so cheap that I have to buy another guitar that is better right when I find out I like guitaring because my other one sucks so much.

I'm planning on getting one of the red ones at http://www.ibanez.com/guitars/default.asp?s=e that looks like the grx, gsa, jem, ect...... I remember that style/design has a certain name but, I forgot it. So can you guys help me with my descision?

How much are you looking to spend? My first guitar was an ibanez RG170. That lasted me for 3 years. It would have lasted me more, but I bought an RG570 because I found a sweet deal on it. I dont know much about the other Ibanez guitars, but I love the RGs. My friend has an RG320 thats red, it's purty. Besides that one, I havn't seen many red RGs. I'm not sure how the re-sell value would be if you decide you don't like it. Hopefully that won't be an issue Check out ebay and look up the guitar your interested in buying, just to see what it goes for used, in case you want to sell it.

how much money do you have?
if you can, try to pick up a standard mexican-made fender strat. they aren't as nice as the americans, but they are pretty decent.

Right after I posted this I went used guitar shopping at local retail stores. I found this http://www.ibanez.com/guitars/guitar.asp?model=RG370DX but It's purple and its last years model(neither realy matter). It's only selling for 210$ comes with a strap, guitar stand, and soft carrying case! I'm planning on getting it tommaro!

I strongly feel that a person's first guitar should be an acoustic. It will really help strengthen your hands/fingers, teach you how to precisely hold chords & play notes, and you don't need an amp...

But if you have your heart set on an electric, DO NOT get anything with a whammy bar/tremolo. They are complicated beyond what a newbie needs to deal with, especially on low end guitars. other than that, most low-end guitars are very similar. Oh, and buy something used.

That is a nice guitar, but as russ said, your gonna have some trouble tuning that thing. The floating bridge is a pain in the butt. It's great once you get it tuned, but it will take a while. Try to have one of the guys at the shop show you how to tune it.

got ur pm, i say maybe hold out on something that extravigant, untill you knwo how to play and know if your gonna like it, that guitar in the pic is for someone that is lookign to do really technical and fast stuff, if you look at the size of the frets and the thickness of th neck. its a jumbo fretted guitar and a thin neck, good for shredding and tapping, and sweeps, youll learn about that once u start playing. you should realyl get something used, so if you dont like it, your not out too much money. also the floyd rose tremlo is not something for a beginner, locking the tremlo is not nessicary for someone who is learning how to play. and having a floyd rose tremlo like on the ibanez you want is gonna make the guitar feel weird the first time you play it. as russ said, go with an acoustic. for all the reasons he gives and more. hope this helps man.

                        Heh, true that.

I play guitar and bass though, so I get the HOTTEST chicks...

Yeah, in your price range look into schecters, great playing guitars. They make "lower end" models that still play better than a comparable quality Ibanez or Fender. Plus, I think even the lower end schecters have either EMG's or Duncan Designed pickups.

As for amps, I am VERY happy with my Vox Valvetronix 120 watt combo. I'm liking the half digital, half tube stuff, having no troubles with the tubes, and it sounds amazing. Its not bad price wise either, I think its about $700 for the 60 watt version.
