If you haven't done it yet, power-cycle your modem. Turn it off, let it sit for 10-15 minutes, then power it back up.

Depends on what your downloading, take kazaa for example. It works by uploading data on there computer and pulling it to yours. If there is just one person with that data it will be slower because that is your only source. Say there are 5 sources that will spread the data out and allow you to achieve a faster download time.

hehe sry but when your used to downloading a file at 200kbs (not even Kazaa, random stuff like cs mods and maps..) and then you suddenly drop to 4-5kbs then 850 BYTES which is SLOWER than your 56k modem..that makes you wonder what the hell is going on with your Cable modem that is advertised at being 50x (?) faster than dial-up..

I also used the Windows ME patch and somehow I did get significant results from it. Im sure its not the answer to everyones slow internet speeds but it made the difference for me.

ps- when your paying $40 a month for an internet connection you WILL be upset when its going slower then 56k.

Cable has no guarantee of service, if someone sets hosts a website down your street and steals your bandwidth, thats just the way it is

I had HORRIBLE service with Roadrunner. Sure I would download at "1500kbs" from cnet's bandwidth test, but I wouldnt ping beloew 250 on ANY game server.

I got 1.5mbs down/256mbs up dsl (cnet's bandwidth meter says its only 600kbs down, 130 kbs up) and it is insanely faster. With FPS games I'm always under a hundred, on AC2 its low 100s.

Its $15 more per month, but worth every bit for a person who games regularly.

                          DSL

I do like the fact with DSL you are on your own line, but I dont pay the bills...My dad does. So until he decides to get DSL or I move out and get my own comp/modem/house.. im stuck with Roadrunner

                          Thanks

R U serious? If thats true I really feel sorry for you. I have junk computers that I throw out that are better than that. I want to upgrade mine already. Its a P4 2.26 runnin xp pro with 512mb corsair ddr. I'm getting ready to overclock it. thinking about water cooling it too. I would just shoot myself if I had to use a 233.

                              uncapper

You can also get an uncapper for roadrunner. RR is the worst of the cable companies. If I find it I'll post it for you.
