      cable

Optimum Online is consistently rated the best. IF you can....get it. Dsl is as fast as you want to pay for. Cable is usually faster and cheaper in long run. Roadrunner definately sucks. Unless you get an uncapper.

The thing you have to remember with cable ... is that everything goes into a pipe, and if that pipe gets busy there's nothing you can do with it.

Look at it like a tree ... each "person" is a branch but they all go into the same tree trunk ... now if everyone in your area thats on this same trunk is online/downloading/etc you will get a severe speed drop ... so if you choose cable, try to get a consensus on wether or not you might have this problem.

DSL on the otherhand uses filters to give you fast linespeed ... and you get a constant speed. My connection 99% of the time is always downloading from "major" servers at 155K a second ... the only time it slows down is the occasional (once amonth, 5mins max) lag in the line ... or if the server is busy and cant support the speed... but my speed is less than some cable providers, but its a constant speed.

Ya just gotta weight it out.... whats best for you.

Oh, and in any case I recommend getting an External modem and if you have more than one PC get a CABLE/DSL router ...

        Sincerely
        Dave

Yep, cable can get congested. Not a problem for me, nobody here has gotten on the bandwagon yet. (cable interent just came to our community last summer)

I would have to reccommend cable over DSL. It seems cable has more potential. For instance my connection is throttled down to 1.5 mbps. There is potential for more bandwidth. To get that performance from dsl, I'd spend a fortune. Right now I spend $55 for internet and tv.

I have been using cable now for three years, in both an apartment setting and in a single house setting ... in either case I have never seen a decrease in my speed at any given point in the day ...

Also CNET ran a small article not to long ago which showed on average cable users getting %50 more speed then DSL users ...

            http://news.com.com/2100-1034-997831.html?tag=fd_ots

I am constently having better ping times then my DSL buddies, I average less then 50 to the majority of games servers I play on. And my download times are much faster. I can get 650 meg ISO's in about an hour or less.

If cable is an option in your area I would go with it. Not to mention that depending on your provider you can get free basic(some times expanded cable) when you get the cable modem. Just run the line into a splitter and then one to the cable modem and one to the TV.
