    Bush's speech

Saw the speech tonight (May 1st) and gotta say it rocked! I heard he flew in on a jet, and then gave a very humble, thankful, and yet powerful speech. Makes me proud to be in this country!

The pilot lifted off from San Diego, and as soon as the wheels were up and locked President Bush took the controls for the remainder of the flight, even flyiing the lead slot in the formation. The Naval pilot did the landing though (Bush was Air Force, never did a carrier trap!).

Despite being President, GeeDubYa still manages to keep his ratings current!

Yes, it was a very moving, powerful speech, reiterating America's purpose as the only superpower left in the world.
Genuine emotion came out, he even choked up a few times as he spoke proudly of HIS warriors.

I would follow his orders into Hell. The man knows what he is doing, and is set on doing it. HOOAH!

It was a little humorous watching the Secret Service men scanning all the sailors, while GW shook hands with nearly everyone on the flightdeck. I fully realize it's their jobs to protect him (and HUGE props to them for a difficult job), but I do believe GW was in the safest place on earth. He was supposed to only shake a couple hands for a few minutes, then go below to confer with the brass. LOL! He waded through practically the whole crew, taking nearly 45 minutes before he left topside

What a loved and respected man. Thank God for such a wonderful change from the '90's. I haven't been more proud of being in the military, than I am right now.

From his flight in, to his leaving, he did a top notch job. He is a president I am proud to call ours.

I missed the speech, but saw the landing. They had originally said that no pics were allowed, and he was just gonna meet, and move on. I think it showed tremendous respect to our men in women in uniform for him to take the time and meet everyone he possibly could. I have to say though, I was a little nervous for the landing. You never know what can happen...

I think it will come back and bit himself in the butt later on. You can not do what he did while still needing troops in the area. He gave the appearance that the war is over, even though it is FAR from over. The people caught that it is over, and will not support him when body bags continue to come back.

By judging the responses here, it looks like his speech writers did their job.

logmus, wasn't it just Natalie that said that.

Put a cork in it CB!

You who predicted such a horrible war. We lost more men to accidents then enemy action. Bush said the Major fighting was over and it is. Will there still be guerrilla attacks? Probably. I guess that steady stream of body bags from afghanistan is hurting him now right?

I guess Bush should not have declared the Afghanistan Major fighting over yet either!

                      What is your problem.

Bush gave the resemblance that this war is over last night. It isn't. When the body bags still come over, I wish they wouldn't, I wish no one would die, but they will. The people will not support Americans dieing in a foreign land for a long period of time.

I did not predict a bloody invasion. I said the invasion will be swift. But after the US gets rid of Saddam is when the blood will fly. We will see in the year to come or so what will happen.

I will not allow this thread to turn into a debate. So I will leave this unanswered. If you want an answer, search for my post on what I think will happen after this invasion is over. They should be in the Iraqi threads.

He didn't say anything that would lead me to believe such a thing. He said that the war on terror is far from over, but that it is not endless. How you wish to interpret that would be your own opinion.
