    Board: Intel Corporation D850GB AAA49507-903
    Serial Number: ABGB12731306
    Bus Clock: 100 megahertz
    BIOS: Intel Corp. GB85010A.15A.0028.P09.0103091412 03/09/2001

    Memory Modules
    128 Megabytes Installed Memory
    Slot 'J7J1' has 64 MB
    Slot 'J7J2' has 64 MB
    Slot 'J8J1' is Empty

or wait a minute, i just had a thought

its giving my a little window to drag down and select the memory i want, has it already selected the memory types that are compatable?

if they did, man i feel dumb, but i still would like to know

          http://www.hardware-unlimited.com/re...o/index2.shtml says you need RDRAM

welcome to the wild wild world of overpriced RAM

          //edit//
something is amiss, i higly doubt that you would have the ugly blue in a machine with a 100mhz fsb. though intel does say that you can run as little as 128 of rambus. any chance you can get a photo of your ram for us? or atleast a physical description?

if your chips look like the above, you might want to consider a new motherboard that accepts DDR ram. In the end you will save a boatload of cash and have a faster machine.

no i dont think its blue

and crucial didnt say anything about rdram

            now im really confused

altho i guess the good part is i work at best buy, so whatever i need i dont have to pay full price for

ill see if i can get a pic of in there within the next few mintues

give us some other system specs as well (it'll help the process along) age of system/cpu/fsb/...

while you are in there, get an exact model number of the board

                  Alright,

It is hard to say without looking at it, but after going to Intels website I found this:

                  http://www.intel.com/support/motherb...0gb/gb_mem.htm

The Intel Desktop Board D850GB has four RIMM sockets (two sockets for each channel) and supports the following memory features:

Total system memory configurations from 128 MB (minimum) to 2 GB (maximum) utilizing 128/144 Mbit or 256/288 Mbit technology PC600 or PC800 compliant RDRAM

Alright, since your computer uses RIMMs (RDRAM) that makes things more expensive. The reason I say this is because you you have to buy in "pairs." Some manufacturers send "blank" Rimms that make the computer think that pairs are there, so you may only need to buy one.

It is hard to say if the existing Ram in you computer is PC600 or PC800. You might want to look into the Motherboard bios and find this out. Usually you hit the delete key on start up and it goes into that blue screened area.

Once you find out what kind of mhz your current RAM is running you can match it.

Since you are capable of going up to 2GB of RAM, buy two 256 meg (make sure these match the current RAM unless you just want to toss them) sticks and slap them in RAM Slots 3 & 4. Easy as that.

This link is from Pricewatch and lists stores of who is selling RAM. Read carefully and if this still doesn't help, try asking a local friend, maybe they know:

a good website is www.newegg.com. Just go to the search box and enter PC600 or PC800, and then match the descriptions on the search results with the descriptions other people have posted here on AO

If this makes no sense...I'm feeling lethargic right now...

This is what I got from www.gateway.com:

                      PC800 64-MB 128Bit 400/100 RIMM

                      System Specs

Like WarBUCKs said, you need to buy in pairs.

FSB = front side bus basically the speed of designated space allocatted for the calculations in a section of the cpu (central proccessor unit also called the main chip) faster is always better and what you have is SLOW in all ways..DDR is the latest widely available memory but you don't need to go that route unless you have pots of money SDRAM will be fine though you will still need a total rebuild of your current machine.

To cut through the letter code.

RDRAM = old cheap spec stuff..must be installed in matched pairs (2 maybe 3 different speeds)

SDRAM = not so old can be fitted in single units (3 types of speed)

DDRAM = Latest (currently comercially available) can be installed in single units (3 different speeds)

All kinds of conflicting advise will be given to you, very much in the vein of this marker is better than that, because, etc, but the one constant will be buy a new pc or at the very least build a new one. Opinons especially with regard to PC's is like arseholes....everyone has one...and all slightly different but they all work, it is the degree at which you want your PC to work that you need to identify. If you want to drop me an email I can help you along...prices etc will be your end as I have no idea of what you can get where you are. Something for anyone reading this, think about this. If we built cars the way we build PC's then no PC "should" ever work.
