people like to joke about topics they are ignorant about....

unless people are deciding what type of food to eat its generally "lets go eat" for chinese food for chinese people, or saying which restaurant and by that you can tell what type of food its going to be. real chinese food differs from american chinese food, its not as red meat heavy like american food. fish/seafood is a big staple in chinese food and it has to be fresh whole fish(with the head and bones) not some frozen fileted crap. chicken is a big one too, and again its freshly slaughtered chicken. a few years back when the chicken flu happened, frozen chickens were shipped in but people weren't having much of that. eventhough pork is the ohter white meat, its is still used more than beef. then of course rice is a staple and vegetables, be it root vegetables or the leafy green kind. In general since the typical chinese diet is using fresh ingredients with less processed products, chinese people tend to be less obese like typical americans.

jesus! have u been reading this thread at all???

acutally now that i think about it.. McDonalds, KFC, and such, are real popular there. But not as like a nice night out or anything. They reffer pizzas, fried chicken, sandwitchs and whatnot as American food, but i think most people that live there still prefer Chinese food.

Actually, they don't refer to it as American food, but "western" food. And they seldom ever get it right. Aside from McDonald's and KFC, everything is a little bit off. The have pizza hut, but you can't just get like, a sausage pizza. Every pizza has something that ruins it, like, corn, or peas. It's a miracle if they can get spaghetti right, which they never can. The chinese food that you're used to primarily comes from Canton. I'd love to get some Americanized Chinese food out here in Taiwan, but there's not a crab rangoon, sweet and sour pork, or fortune cookie in sight

you should try to look for tourist restaurants that cater to westerners, they usually have some sort of americanized chinese food.
