RoadRunner/Cable Modem Question

OK, my godfathers girlfriends daughter(lol, sounds complicated) is getting RR installed today. And she has a sister that wants it in her room too, but they don't really want a cable running throught the apartment, and wireless is prolly too expensive. So my question is, can you hook a modem to each computer, and connect at the same time?

I'm stuck setting it up since I'm the computer geek in the family, but I know very little about broadband(I like in the boonies, lol).

And answers/suggestions are appriciated.

i'm sure you can, but the modems are fairly expensive. wireless really isn't that expensive, and its definitely worth it to network between the computers. check out www.pricewatch.com for the equipment.

I don't think it will work. RR generally only leases one IP address at a time anymore. You used to be able to get two, but I don't think that's the case anymore. Besides, like Cheetah said, I think for the same amount of money you could go wireless and you would have room to expand.

I would say no. It would be best to get a 802.11b wireless modem. They should be fairly cheap now that 802.11g is out. These modems uses NAT to share a single public IP address to your private IP address range, usually defaulted 192.168.x.x. It is ecenttially(sp) a firewall, a bouncer at a club. One thing you want to do with a wireless router is to change the SSID name, channel and WEP settings, stands for Wireless Encrytion Protocol. Also limit the number of DHCP address that are alowed on the network. All wireless routers are defaulted with the same settings. If you don't change these, a wardriver can log into your network from outside of your house.
