    My DSL is slow as hell...

    This just recently started happening. I was wondering if anybody knows what's up? Is there any way that it could be me or is it the company?

    Just out of curiousity, is it slow everywhere online or just on AO? Most of the time I zip across the net at DSL speed, but sometimes AO pages just drag when they load -- up to several minutes to display the text. Its rediculous.

        mine got really slow after the power went out one time. if you are using internet exploerer. what i did was went to tools, connections, internet options, connections tab, went to lan settings, then clicked on the "use automatic configuration script" box
        I chop no more thanks to level ten!

          Get the phone company to come out and monitor your lines. Our DSL was running so slow it got to a point where 56k was faster. We called them up and they came out, seems that they had 6dB of noise on the line and they should have 8db, our alarm system was interfereing with the connection, and a few other things, so we were using 99% of our bandwidth. The phone company ran a new line to the modem and now we are only using 50% bandwidth and it flys. Also, make sure you have filters on all your phones.

            We have problems with our DSL off and on, same as we had with our cable (although the cable eventually deteriorated into unusable and unfixable).

            What I suggest is turning the modem off, and if you have a router turn that off. Leave them both off for several minutes. If your router has a factory reset button, us it (write down your dsl log-on information first though so you can set it back up).

            Also clean up your computer. Delete temproary internet files, defrag your hard drive, run an anti-spyware program, etc. One problem I may have been having (not totally sure on this), but my "temporary internet files" was set to almost 4000mb. I was getting a regular 3-4 second delay before loading any page (which I assume was caused by IE comparing the new site to the one it has stored in the temp files, but I'm not sure). To clear that go to Tools>Internet Options and click on "delete files". Also click on settings and lower the size of the temp folder (like I said my default size was almost 4 gigs). You have high-speed access, you might as well make it work and d/l the new pages and images as often as possible (I keep mine set to 100mb).

            Usually for us the problem is one or two of my roomates leaving kazaa on by accident which eventually destroys the available bandwidth if both are downloading and uploading dozens of files each.

              Like Restola said, keep your Temporary Internet Files settings low. I have mine at 50megs. It should set to 90 megs max.

                    Do you have filters on all phones or is your filter located outside next to the phone box? If you have filters on all phones, unplug all phones, power cycle the DSL modem(turn off for 1 minute then back on) then browse the web. If the speed is back up, at least one of your filters is bad. To find the bad one, hook back one phone at a time and check your speed. If it's fine, unplug it and go to the next phone. Repeat the procedure till you find the bad filter. Don't forget to check the filter that is on your DSL modem.
