Wow, i think around me the law is 10 feet, and I've definately parked within 7 or so. They're pretty leinent, however you spell it, around my school. I've seen people parked literally 2 feet from the hydrant, next time I see it I'm gonna start a fire at a nearby house so they get their windows busted through

Also one of my buddies uncle used to be a fireman, but he never took kindly to people blocking hydrants. The 1st incident was Ok and while it may not have been procedure, it was common practice. You know...the whole busting out the windows thing and passing the house through.

Oh, sidenote, the reason they need a lot of room is that theres so much pressure in the line the hose doesn't take kindly to going around things.

Ok back to my buddy's uncle: The 2nd infraction was a little more serious. I think it was something funny like the same hydrant or something, but he was driving the truck this time, and got a little pissed and plowed the fire truck into the car blocking the hydrant.

...Sadly he had to find a new profession after that one

That's why they have the long yellow curb surrounding the hydrant
That's the problem. They don't paint the curbs in most of Queens or Brooklyn. The city only does this in the affluent neighborhoods.

They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.

nah... you'll need a 5 gallon bucket of metallic yellow paint because 1, you need more because concrete is porus and absorbs more liquids, 2, you'll wanna see it clearly at night too
