    Its really not as hard as you think it is. There are alot of options, but all of them require you to get a background check (unless you buy it from somebody in the classifieds and they don't care if you register it). First you can get a "BLUE" card, I think you get these at the police department, if you have one of these($25)you can walk right in to a gun store and buy! If you don't, like the others have said you buy a gun from somewhre else and have it sent to a gun store for a transfer, the 150$ that guy was talking about is psyco, there are stores here that do it for free, just to get you as a coustomer. I see that you live in Cali. so I don't know the specifics. I just bought a gun from a dealer in Tenn. and had it sent to Nevada completly hassel free; also if you have a blue card you can buy handguns at gun shows w/o a waiting period. If you need more info. go to a good dealer in your area (one thats been there awhile).

      rtslave - California gun laws are the strickest out of all 50 states. To buy a gun from another person, they have to go trough a fully California licensed gun dealer.

          website

          This is a nice site to buy some nice guns. I also found a dealer in NY that will do transactions for $25. Try Impact guns They have some good specials sometimes. Nice preban stuff also. Another one is KY Imports

            I'm Not an expert in California Gun Law's, But a Good rule of thumb is Order the gun from Whoever You can get the best Price from, then have it shipped to your friendliest local FFL licensed Dealer {The Paper trail Must Be Clean}
            I dont know about Cali' but up here in Wisco' I've never paid more than a $15.00 paperwork fee for a gun transfer, and most of the time I dont even have to pay that much.

              I think we have the most strict laws on every subject and its not fair. We are always the first state to pass a new law then all the other states follow. It sucks.

                  I'll start off by saying I don't have the luxury of being able to own a great many different firearms due to the laws I have to adhere to.....however if you do what you have suggested in your post.......don't drop the soap

                    Unless your gun laws are very stringent, buy one through the classifieds in the newspaper, make sure to do it in cash and through a normal person so that there is no paper work, no hassle, and no record. Best of all, no one higher up will know you have a gun....no tracking of the sort.

                              my concern is if the weapon was illegally bought then charges will be pressed against you and would prolly give the criminal's family a reason to sue you. nowadays the criminals have more rights than law abiding citizens. you have to actually prove that you were in danger.

                                Yup, I hate it too; when i get old enough, I will try to move out (of this state), but by then, mostlikely many of the California "ideals" will have spread throughout the country. I hope not...
