anyone else have dual monitors? i just got a 18" plasma to take to college, and decided to hook it up to try it out here. unfortunatly it only runs at 1280x1040, but i can live with that. anyway, i suppose it's a little unnecessary, but it's still pretty nice.

you need a video card with a dual view option.
i believe there is also a way to run dual video cards and one monitor off each.
I have a Geforce 4, i use my 17" for usual computer stuff, and my 24" tv for watching movies through the comp.
My computer is also hooked up to my Hafler 220 amp and four 8" woofers, 2 mids, and 2 tweeters.

2 vid cards... its easy with windows xp, just install both and go into display properties... extend desktop and walla, double the desktop space."I thought it through and my worst brings out the best in you." - Taking Back Sunday

Okay, I could write a few page on this, I'll try to keep it concise:
Radeon 7500 ~$115
For every day work, new computer, non-graphic intensive stuff.
Gainward GeForce 4 Ti4600 ~$250
Supports two monitors, but unlike the Radeon packs a punch behind the support. Good for gamers etc.
Matrox G200/G450 ~$100
Workstation models, not designed for home users, I've only built computers with 3 of each. Not my favorite card, tricky to get set up properly.
Matrox Parhelia ~$350
Ok, some what of a dream card, except that it didn't work right :/ I was really excited about this card but it didn't perform as well as it could/should have. Still supports 3 monitors.Rooster "But such is the mentallity of the Arab people. Which is why as long as there are Arabs, there will be a terrorist problem."

*cough* not possible *cough* You mean a card with 2 jacks?
Yeah I was doing that way back with win 95. THAT was hard to get to work back then. Now it's a snap. kinda funny but I just burnt up my old 17" trinitron today. I knew it was going south, but then it wouldn't come on today, I wans't surprised, so I just shut it all down again. Forgot to turn off my monitor though. Well about 4 min later I hear * pop pop pop pop fizlle pop pop spark spark pop fizzle* followed by smoke and a yucky smell that filled the room. That's when I decited " yeap it's defiantly done, RIP"Comment

I tried to connect my computer to my roommate's monitor last year. My computer had a movie on it we wanted to watch, and his computer didn't have enough memory to play and his monitior was better suited to watch movies then my laptop screen. I was able to connect it and get it semi-working in five minutes, but for some reason only half of the movie fit on his screen. We soon gave up on it, we just couldn't get it to work properly.LX SmartMag, L7 Classic.Comment

Not really...I have dual monitors at home and I love it. I only have one AGP slot...the other is a PCI card. Once you have dual monitors, it's hard to go back to one.Originally posted by Heat

The AGP card is obviously my primary card I use for gaming. Obviously, my PCI card is used for my secondary and is fast enough for day to day desktop activities."I just came for your mayonaise." ~ TooDamnSweet

to add to the list of cards that support dual monitors as listed above by NJPaint,
-any of the geforce fx models have 2 heads (support dual monitors)
-ati radeon 9700 and above support it as well
im sure any other new cards coming out in the future will have the option, its cheaper that buying 2 video cards (if you want a descent card)Zaszczycają waszą ojczyznę

Woah, I just signed up for some forum, and my random password was your name, devildog..
.. And to make my post non whore,
How does 2 monitors work? I wanna set it up lol, my moniter sucks (Sometimes it doesn't turn on when I turn on the computer, I gotta wait till it reboots, then restart the computer) .. But like, how does it work? If you move your mouse to the end of one screen, it just goes on to the next? How does the resolution work for that?Comment
