    New Metallica Song

I heard the new Metallica song on KROQ here in LA this afternoon and my first thoughts on it is.... *goes into comic guy from the simpsons voice* "The worst metallica song EVER!" *end comic guy voice* It sounded awful. It's true they are getting worse and worse with each passing album. Just my opinion though.

I'm gonna disagree and say it was TNT. Becuase well, it is TNT. I really like it. The new bassist is great and they are developing a new sound that is a little more in tune to me. Me like.

I kind of liked the song. It is a weird hybrid if you ask me. But I enjoyed it none the less.
      I wish I wasn't broke....

        Title of said song?

        (edit) Nevermind. "St. Anger".

I wish I had a radio in my car so I could hear it.

I'd have to agree with RoadDawg...it just didn't sound the same. There were parts that sounded alright but once he started to sing it just sounded all wrong. Maybe the rest of the album will be good.

I liked it, but James just shouldn't try to "sing" he should stick to doing what he does best, BELTING THE SONGS OUT!!!! But of course this is just my opinion...

It sucked!! The great thing about good bands is that they are able to change with out sounding totally different, it sounded to me like they were tring way too hard to sound diff. but then through in a big Metallica riff, it sounded bad to me, but thats just one mans opinion.

I'll admit it was a lot heavier than I thought it would be. It was an OK song.

I used (used being the operative word) to be a HUGE Metallica fan. I just don't know. Maybe I grew out of it, or maybe they grew out of me. I still love their old stuff, I mean c'mon: Fade to Black is still one of the best songs in the world. I guess the new direction (Load/Reload) just weren't when we wanted to go. But, I have to give it to them: there were some really catchy songs on those albums. BUt, that's all they were: catchy. They just didn't have the "ummmmph" that they used to have.
As for the new song, I saw the video. I wasn't really impressed. Does anyone remember the days when you could listen to metal with out bearing some political message? I sure do. I miss those days. Maybe, I'm just being cranky, but I want to rock out! Get angry or fired up, and just ROCK! The drum beat really reminded me of older punk, however, the rest of the song sounds a lot like post nu-metal. All in all, I wish they would bow out gracefully. Leave us with the memories of them being the Mosnters of Metal that they were.
Before anyone gets the wrong idea: I'm not saying that they aren't talented or anything like that. I'm not even saying that it's a bad song. All I'm saying is that it's enough. 20+ years is a REALLY good run for any band. And, I think that Metallica has run its course. That's just me. I'm not saying that a band should have a shelf life, they just need to realize when it time to close the show and move on.
All in all, I think the major contributing factor to their decline of popularity is the Napster debacle. What upset me about all that was Lars. I remember watching a documentary about them, and Lars was talking about how they got a word of mouth following with the Ride the Lightening tapes. He said how he made something like ten copies of it for his ten best friends. Then they made ten copies eace, the those people made copies, so forth and so on. by starting the fire with Napster, it was like him throwing down how his band came up. ANd that is what upset me the most.

                        Later,

I really think Metallica likes to change their music to the style that is popular at the time. Their new song sounds a lot like System of a Down...only worse.
I spent a saturday over a year ago with a group of people doing some trajectory testing with a bench mounted Mag and Cocker with identical barrels (Armson Stealths and PMI Ceramics), chronoing every shot over a red radar chrono. Had a big particle board target with a 2" grid mounted to a ladder that we would move to varying distances.

                          We discovered 2 things:
                          1) Cockers will break if you look at them wrong.
                          2) There was absolutely no discernable difference in the trajectories of the two guns.
