Yup, got mine 11 years ago, just 4 days before my 18th birthday.

Got me an extra rank and a little more pay when I went into the Army.

Yup...I'm an Eagle as well. A little more old school than the other posts in this thread though. I got mine as a junior in high school in 1993. I was in for five years, and it was a great time. The whole experience of Scouting really toughens you up and makes a man outta you early on in life.

Sept 12, 2001 That was my Board of Review. It was actually 10 days after my birthday, but the council in my area decided that since I join scouts when I was like 15 or 16, that I should have an extra 10 days to finalize my Project.

BTW Has anyone been to Philmont? I know a few of you have...

I used to have this as my sig:

Made it to Life, OA Brotherhood, twice to Philmont, '74 and '76 (both times climbed the "Tooth of Time"), and the 1973 Jamboree in Cour D'Lane Idaho. Also escorted the local handicap troop, T-321, to the handicap Jamboree in San Jose in '77 and '78.

For you California scouts: Attended Camps Chawanakee, Oljato, Pico Blanco, and Miramichi. I am currently registered to two troops as Assistant Scoutmaster, T-350 in Lockwood, and T-322 in San Luis Obispo.

While we're on a roll...10 years in 4-H, made county All-Star in '79 (only 2 of us that year), past vice pres. amd president '77-'79. All blue ribbon steers and swine, and won reserve champion steer in '76. Attended the National 4-H Conference in Washington DC in '78, and the National All-Star conference in Chicago in '79.

...and kids today say there's nothing to do...HA!

I did mine in about 4 months... You'll make it if you work hard and organize quickly.

For my project, I had my troop drive around and pass out fliers explaing that the following week we would return to colloect clothes, towels, etc for an Endagered Family shelter in my area. That next week, there was not one house that didn't fill at least a large trashbag full of stuff: toys games clothes, towel, etc. We had so much, that the Family Shelter didn't have enough room for it all. We filled my Ranger up twice, my friend's Jeep and trailer twice, my moms van twice, and a friend of mine filled his car 4 times. We even had some of the households we solicited volunteer to help drive or troop around and deliver the clothes.

It seems that projects like this where you pass out fliers to homes usually come together quickly.

Just to gloat, in the past 10 years, our troop, Troop 313 in Concho Valley Council, has only had 8 or so scouts not attain the rank of Eagle. As opposed to the nearly 30 Eagle Recipients in that same time period.

That's an estimate, but literally everyone that I remember from my age group has reached Eagle except 1 person.

From being in scouts for 8 years, I got to see a lot. I was actually in Cub Scouts, but for some reason it never worked out, I wasn't really interested, and I quit(haha a Cub Scout drop-out )

...my introduction into scouts was a hard one...first in 1993...Troop 35 in Japan...lol run by the older scouts and totally ruthless, it sure toughened me up real quick. Made 1st class in like 5 months. Then moved back to CA and got involved in some troops there, got star, then life, and started slackin...lol. Moved out here to VA, and got started on my Eagle Project, which was to build a trail system for a residential community. I had to get the approval of the City Council and the community. Took me about 6 months total. The actual work wasn't too bad...it was the planning!

The best advice I can give to Life scouts looking to do their project and running out of time...get the wheels turning. The actual project will happen down the road, but you need to do your planning first.

The best advice I have to those that are in the upper ranks but still have a ton of time left...enjoy it Don't feel pressure like you have to make Eagle at 14 or 15...granted, getting Eagle Scout and doing your Eagle project should be on your mind now, but don't let it stop you from having fun!

Anyone else have their story? Man I could talk about this stuff all day...
