I think a lot of cats leave bits of dead animals they catch so you can be proud of them for catching them. My cat caught a mouse a couple months ago, bit off the head, and left the rest of it in the middle of my dining room. I hope she ate the head, because I never found it.

I dont think it is to show how proud they are, but more as a gift to their owner. Im not sure, probably both.
