Running boards are to get in the truck. And those are stock item and came on the truck. And work quite well as a step up to the racks now as well. I would not think that would be so odd...
No 4 wheel drive because, as stated this is a highway cruser towing machine. 4 wheel drive adds unnessicary weight and cuts into both your GVW capacity and fuel mileage. And I have another vehicle that is 4 Wheel drive for driving in incliment weather and situations where it might be needed.
Yea Yakima is known as kind of a yuppie brand anymore. Seems some people look at it that way. I am not sure I know why except that they make equipment that is seen on some yuppie vehicles. But they do indeed make some very nice equipment and have great customer service as well. They do the job without any noise added. And that comes from the well thought out design. I have found that out. Many other manufacturers make gear baskets but all of them are designed for "Off Road" applications and are very noisy at highway speeds. These were designed for highway speed and that proved out once I got the basket on with its built in wind faring. Solved all the noise problems right away. There were other things they made that did that too. But they urged me to wait untill the basket was on and see how it was. And they were right. Some how people keep missing where I said that several times. There is not noise now that the basket is on. And they are the only manufacturer that makes a rack designed and tested for this truck. And many other vehicles for that matter. Yakima is an American Made company too so thats good.
I sometimes haul a 4 wheeler in there too. And with all my gear and luguage there is not enough space in the bed. I have in the past had to pull my yard trailer to get the four bikes in there and the rest of my stuff. So I am doing things to make it so if I go on a long trip with a lot of gear I can efficently do so without hauling a trailer. And also do so if I am hauling the camper as well. Its a matter of utilizing all the space I have. Most likey lugage will go up there. With four people in the truck you need somewhere to put it to keep it clean and dry. The roof is a natural spot that was not utilized before. It is now.
