Have I got a good deck for you. Look for the JVC KD-SH9700 on ebay. You shold be able to pick one up for around $240. I just got one, and it is way nicer than decks that cost more than twice as much.
I'm nothing more than text to you...

I have the Alpine CDA-7894 and it's great. The next one up is basically a different color and $100-200 more. I got it about 1/2 year ago so it should be lower. I heard that DVD is coming out for radios so you might want to wait until then as new technology brings down the price of older models. I'm not sure when it will actually come out though.

If you want MP3 capability and only have $250 to play around with, chances are you're going to be stuck with a lower-end deck. If you can, stick with the top-rated brands... the sound quality and longevity will make it worthwhile. Find and Eclipse or Alpine that suits your needs and pick it up, trust me, you wont be more satisfied with anything else. Take a look at this... although it's not one of the flashy flip-down models, it will get the job done right: http://www.infinitecaraudio.com/cgi-...alogno=CDA9807

If you step into the higher-end Alpine, you'll get the V-Power which is a much more powerful amplifier that draws cleaner juice from the battery. It says that it pushes "60x4," and although that is probably a tad-bit over rated, it's still more than tons of other head units out there.

Personally, I use an Eclipse w/o MP3 decoding. I just burn tons of CDs and it does me just fine. I prefer Eclipse over anything simply because the sound processing is second to none, and it just makes a wonderful sound field. I run Boston Acoustics 6x9s and 6.5s in my Grand Cherokee with JL SE40 tweeters in the dash, and it sounds like a symphony hall.

I agree totally with the last post. Any cheap brand Deck is going to play cheaply. Sony's used to be high quality but they went for looks over sound. Alpine and Eclipse are great brands. But some higher end JVCs and such can really put out. Check ebay, they have alpines and clcipse units for tons cheaper than even wholesale internet dealers.
