Sammy Sosa ejected for corked bat!

You'll here about Sosa, he got ejected today against the Devil Rays when his bat shattered and umpires found his bat to be corked. This is really shocking, as Sosa is one of the games best home run hitters, and has hit over 500 home runs in his career. Man I wonder what this will do to his reputation now, as for hitters, corking your bat is a pretty big cheating offense. I wonder what the repurcusions will be on his reputation and career, and if this was something he's been doing for a while now.

IMHO a cheater is a cheater. Sucks for him. Problem could easily be fixed. I'm sure it wont be.

Not like I ever watched baseball anyways.

corking a bat involves drilling out a small whole a few inchs down the center of the bat, filling it with cork then topping with a dowel to make it look normal- illegal to do, but not really that big a deal. I would geuss that he will donate money to some charity or organization and it will be forgotten, until someone realizes that Tim McLelland, the same ump who busted george brett for the pine tar also busted sosa.

It's a very big deal! When people pay huge ticket prices just to get into the park (because some boob makes $250,000,000 to hardly give his all...), pay stupid high prices for drinks, food, peanuts, concessions, and BEER! Then practically beat the hell out of each other just to catch one of Sosa's homers! Only to find out that many, perhaps most, of those celebrated home run shots were CHEATS! Sammy may as well have shot them out of a cannon. I want to spend my money on an honest game, not one with a foregone conclusion. Think of it this way: You are in the tourney of a lifetime, it has taken YEARS to get here by invitation only. Then you find out that you can only use unbreakable paint according to the rules. Your opponants are bound by the same rule, but they sneak in super brittle Marbs and mark your team from head to toe. You didn't get anyone out because your LEGAL paint can't break. As they celebrate their "win", you get to go home broke, trophyless, and covered in paint. All your time, effort, and money was spent for nothing, because the cheaters got away with it.

Sammy claims that was his batting practice bat...yeah.....right! Corking a bat is ILLEGAL in the game of Pro-Baseball at ANY TIME! Posession of a modified bat can result in fines, suspensions, or removal from the game permanently, and should be. His home run record should be cleared too, as there is no way to know how long he has cheated his team and the sport.

            Honestly army im not supprized....

I figure that most of the premire homerun hitters in the Majors are given corked bats and silently told to use them...

batting records draw crowds, crowds = money

IM damn near certain that if you held a raid on the facilitys of some of the leading players clubhouses and did some bat sampleing you would find more than enough cork to fuel this arguement more

Sosa has always been on the bubble with me. Since he came out and stated everyone baseball should be tested for roids and that he would be first in line. Then when a reporter called his bluff and asked him to go take a drug test with him to show the rest of the baseball community and he got all irate. This seems like another strike against him that will probably always put a ? mark by his name. I think Army is right; it is not a small deal. The league needs to reprimand him. We can't make exceptions cause it's "Sammy" or we are just telling those of little kids its okay to do just don't get caught.

Army actually many players cork their bats during batting practice to hit more homers. Y'know to excite the crowd. That is the ONLY time their legal. But supposedly their was a "C" on the bat, meaning it was corked and could be a batting practice bat.

I dont care much for Sosa, but I still dont really think he is the type 'o guy to cheat.

                          Bats

I bet a lot of the bats at the All star games are corked, but you never really know. I think thats really messed up that he did that, it let a lot of people down that like sosa.

Damn. That's really not what a lot of fans want to hear. I guess maybe that's why ilike competitive snowboarding, you either ride better than the other guy or you don't, and more often than not everybody walks away friends, ya know? I'm not a baseball fan, but knowing what I'm watching isn't even real really turns a potential fan like me off.
