I think it might be my phone service though.

my phone will display the number only, if the person is not in my phonebook.
if the person is in my phonebook, it will display the number and the name.Comment

there are programs that can create the correct tones to generate Caller ID messages. They just have to play the correct tone/sound after the line has been picked up and thier message appears on the Caller Id.
