In my own personal opinion I absolutely love my glass top electric stove plus a oven roaster on top.

I thought this was the best Christmas gift my husband ever gave me.

I have used gas and yes it does heat faster, I persoanlly think of clean up.

The glass electric is such a breeze to clean, no grease getting stuck in crevaces.

With gas the burners tend to get really messy after while.

Just my opinion, I wouldn't trade my electric for the world.

If the power goes, I go to the grill.

Oh yea Heather. That reminds me to plug in what it is I now USE.

I currently have a Jenn Aire Glass Top with Convection Oven. Love this thing. The Top elements heat almost instantly. Similar to Gas and the Convection feature gives me nice hot dry roasting also similar to Gas.

No Gas out our way and Propane is too expensive and electricity is fairly cheap. I too go to the propane Grill or the Sports Camp Stove when the power is out.

Yeah Phil mine is a Magic Chef with the top roaster option.

I love it, it is the best appliance I own! I have never had a dry turkey, chicken or pork dinner ever!

And like I said before it is so easy to clean.

The grill in the back I have is hooked up to our big propane tank attached to the house. If we want a smokey wood flavor, we have an outdoor huge fireplace, that my husband has found to be his favorite place, every day he goes out there and burns something

This isn't really worth arguing over, but....

When I researching installing a gas fireplace the options are traditional flue/chimney, direct vent, and vent free. The disadvantages of vent free were the requirement for air intake into the room and that the stove/fireplace created a lot of moisture.

If you are heating with gas and it's contributing to lower humidity in your house it's because you have a poor installation and the furnace is using house air for combustion (drawing humid air out of the house and up the flue). There should be no difference in house humidity between electric and direct vent gas heating or other high efficiency furnace set-up.

Unless you're comparing apples and oranges. When you say electric vs gas house heating are you talking about the same thing? Forced-air heating will lead to better distributed humidity than radiators regardless of whether the heat source is gas, oil, elctric, or heat pump.

I think the issue of 'humidity' in the oven is another red-herring. The searing of meat to keep in the juices applies equally well to gas and electric ovens. I think it's just the better circulation of heat in a gas oven sears the meat quicker than an electric oven does.

As far as the drawbacks of gas ranges being difficult to clean, that's not really an issue with many of the new ranges. Many now have nice smooth tops with removable pot supports.

Pro: Suicide is a lot easier with a gas oven. =)

Well if you stick your head in an electric oven it takes a whole lot longer kill yourself then in a gas oven!

              More painful too!

Naw I wont argue with you. But you are wrong.

Wood stoves also dry out the air in the house. Heated with it exlusively for 15 years. And was drawing combustion air from outside too.

Gas furnaces usualy are vented and still produce low humidity. So does Oil

Humidifiers are normal fare for houses with these types of heat sources. Even electric does dry the air out some. Just not as bad. Any heat source will.

I already acknowledged there are electric stoves that simulate the activity of gas now. I have one. And people can show you some nice advances in Gas stoves too. But anyone who has cooked a lot with either will tell you gas makes a crispier skin and juicier middle. It's from experience. Trust me or don't... realy doesn't matter to me.

                    Con to convection ovens:

The install! It sucks! Not only running the exhuast tubing, but getting the damn thing in the wall, its just no fun.

Gas ovens you also need to run a gas line, and try not to kill yourself and others in your immediate area. That would be bad.

I personally, despite my limited cooking experience, prefer gas. Its just a lot faster for me. Making water boil in a tea pot is twice as fast, the flames will wrap around the pot a bit and heat more of the surface.

Miscue, it think you got the best combination in the house. Good luck moving in!

We have a convection oven in out microwave, works pretty well - but we rarely use it. Usually just around Christmas because we have a pound cake convection oven recipe that taste good.

But how about a real debate you guys - Charcoal or propane!

Charcoal baby; can't beat the flavor.
