AO: We are back from the dead... again! After an 18 day outage, we are finally alive and well. Who knew how complicated updating software/databases from 2008 would be. I still have alot of tweaks to make, but my main goal was getting everything patched and updated to 2026.
Vbulletin 6 has changed alot since 2008 so we will have a ton of new features to dig into.
Now first off, if i start rambling off, just slap me. If think, that the GREATEST begginer guitar is the Squier Strat. It is very cheap, and it is acually a really nice playing guitar. Seriously, go with the Squier, you could go with a really cheap ibanez, but they arent very good, up until the $700 range or so. For their starter gutiar, Ibanez, Jackson, Epiphone, and all off brands are not a good idea. One thing i suggest you do, is go to a guitar center or your local music store and try guitars out, or if ou dont play yet, have someone else play them to tell you how they are. But I would REALLY recommend you go get a Squier Strat Pak, they are in your price range, and they come with a practice amp and all stuff you need. If you would have asked about a month ago, i would have sold you my Squier, i sold it to a friend. I miss it, but i have too many guitars right now. Trust me, if there is one thing i know, it would have to be guitars. http://www.squierguitars.com/gear/ge...partno=0310600 that is the Squier Affinity Strat, the best begginer guitar ever. Once you buy whatever you buy, please post pics. I really like it when someone on AO starts to talk guitars, because i can actually talk, and not just nod along. Ohh well, i am starting to ramble. I hope you take my advise.
like mr. who 311 said, a squire is a very good electric guitar, and there is a pack that comes with an amp that is pretty cheap. i personally would recomend starting with an acoustic. i did and i find i can move faster, play faster, pretty much easier than my friends that started on an electric
Thank you Krems, but you say that it is better to start on acoustic. I kind of disagree, but i mean not to flame, just stating my opinion. I think it is better to start on electric, for the opposite reason you said, it is easier. I remember back when i started out, i played my friend's dad's acoustic, and i remember it being SOOO hard, which i spose is good. But, i think it is better to start on electric because you can do different things, and if you dont want it loud, you can turn it down, and if you want to play very loud, you can play LOUD! I just think that electric can be best, i started out on electric(a squier i might add), and i seem to think i am alright. Man, i can really ramble on. Sorry folks, but i still suggest the electric.
who_311 ive tried acoustic and i found it as u said much harder as for the strat ill check it out and see what i think i will post picks i need to find other players on here too
actually about the only one on here i know is spongebob cause ive played pb w/ him a while i think he at one time tried the bass he may still have it ill find out
What guitar you get depends a lot on what music you like, what music you want to play, and what you plan on doing with it. If you have any desire to be in a band, you'll find that the amp supplied in the Squier Strat Pack leaves a lot to be desired. The quality of the guitars can vary widely as well. I've seen some fairly decent guitars in the packs, but I've also seen some absolutely terrible ones as well. Your best bet is to find one used, either at a music store or ebay. Or better yet, a lot of music stores offer a monthly rental program, where you can rent the guitar and amp for a month as well as get lessons. That's another option.
Hey man, I play guitar too. I'm still somewhat a beginner but I have 2 guitars. Both good beginners. My first guitar was a Washburn Acoustic which is really really nice for its price. And I have an electric which is an Epiphone SG Bully but they don't make bullys anymore. But an SG Special is the exact same thing except for the neck but its nothing to worry about. I didnt read the toher posts too well so sorry if someone already posted this but www.musiciansfriend.com has alot of good prices and packages for beginners.

Well, sence this thread is here, I might as well ask. I chose guitar lessons as an elective next year for my freshman year of high school and I know NOTHING about guitars.. I dont even know if I'll need one (probally) but what should I go for? That Squier posted above? I think like it was pointed out (if accoustic really is hard) to start with accoustic, then when you switch to electric it would be easy is a good idea, its kind of like starting out paintball playing with a pump gun, you get really good at conserving paint and more accurate shots.. am I right?
Anyway, Im not sure what my budget will be, probally the same as this guys.. hell I dont even know if I will get a guitar, because my brother has 3 (electric, accoustic electric and a bass) and I could probally borrow his, but I doont know.. how much is the Squier Strat with the kit (amp and everything)
Edit: oh and im looking at this musicians friend webiste and they have a lefty catagory...
Im left handed, I guess that makes a diffrence..
Back when i bought my strat pak, it was 150, and i thought that was pretty good. And i was right! I still like to play it, i sold it to a girl i am giving lessons to, and whenever i go over there, i sometimes play it. I put some Fender Noiceless pickups in it, and set up the intonation and action all by my self, and it fells really nice. For squier owners out there, a good idea is to get new Fender graphite saddles and a bone nut, makes all the difference. But seriously, new pickups make a squier a beautiful thing, it is seriously like the LVL 10 for guitars.
i went to a place and tried out a few i think i like the ibanez IJS40 it comes in a nice pak and i really like it if i dont get it ill get another similar to it the guitar itself well be about 175 the amp 105 and the other any way im gettin everything for about 250 thanx
