Hey guys, I'm looking into getting an mp3 player and I need some help. I want one thats under or around $150, has a decent internal memory (128mb) and has an expandable memory. But I was wondering if it was possible to find one that takes CF cards rather than the more common SD/MMC's? I'm looking at the RCA Lycra and I like it a lot, it has 128mb internal memory, its tiny, has good sound quality, and has a ton of options. But I'd prefer a player that used CF cards instead of SD/MMC. Thanks in advance

This is just a suggestion by me, but I'd suggest getting a MiniDisc player over a MP3 player. About 6 months ago I was in the same situation looking at MP3 players. I had heard of MD players, but didn't know much about them. After learning though about them, I soon found myself liking them much better than the MP3 player. I found that a MD player for one can hold more on a standard MD (up to 5 hours worth of music on one MD), they have basicly the same downloading process from PC to player as a MP3 (software included), and a big factor was that a single MD is very inexpensive at around $2 per as opposed to a memory card for a MP3 player. So I chose a Sony MD player, and I'm glad I did. There great, comparable in size to most MP3's, and have great sound quality. There basicly the same price too. And you can probably find some of the older models on Ebay for very reasonable prices as Sony recently introduced newer models.Silver ULE X Valved Mag

For $250 I could buy 2 MiniDisc players and then some. Bah to holding computer files, get a disk or CD for that.Originally posted by pbcustom98

Wait about 6 weeks and get the new Archos that is due out for the summer (or something similar to the Archos - there have been reviews in the past several month's Computer Shopper mags). Should start with a 20Gb HD (that would hold about 250 albums at high quality VBR) and includes an FM receiver/transmitter. Just tune your car stereo to 88.1FM and hit play on the new Archos.
Very slick product should be about $200 MSRP.
I was going to include a link to r3mix.net, which had some great references to creating archival quality mp3's (for those who recommend MD players for the music quality), but the site appears to be gone.
Basically though, as long as you're encoding your own mp3s from your own CDs at high quality with a program like LAME, and not copying other people's low quality mp3s that have been encoded with crap like RealPlayer, you will not notice a difference even on a high-end $10,000 stereo.Comment

Well the Archos sounds real good, but I doubt that it will get $150 or even below any time soon. I guess I am intereste din MD's...I thought that you could only have 2 hrs of music though? It's Bold As LoveComment
