i dont think thats what mantismag means. an athlon 2000+ isnt 2000mhz, or 2.0ghz, it is only about 1600mhz, or 1.6ghz. he was referring to how intel names there chips by the actuall speed, but amd names them 2200+ 2400+ 2600+ 2800+ etc. which can be misleading because a 2200+ chip isnt 2200mhz, so people who dont know a lot about computers might get confused by that. falconguy, even if you bought an OEM geforeceFX 5900 ultra it would still be over 500$, and i dont know where you shop but OEM's are rarely ever half the price. the only real difference is that OEM's usually dont come with the box, manual, warranties, and other stuff that is packaged in with a retail product. sometimes an OEM might have slightly different components then a Retail, but even then it would be hard to find it for half the price.
edit: technically, aren't all geforce cards OEM since nvidia only makes the gpu, not the actual card?

I can tell you right now that my 1650 is MUCH faster, quicker, snappier, than any stock intel 3000 (I play with them all the time). Its so BALANCED lol I love it so much, I want to pet it.
Just because you tell me doesn't mean it's true! You should check out some posts at HardForum on their overclocking the P4 2.4C chips and the speeds that they get compared to a 2000+ and a 2400+. You might be surprised.

squid - emag got it right. so i'll dub you n00b as well. amd names them that way because their processors perform better than similarly speeded intels. so they give them the number that tells you approximately what intel they're comptetive with.

demobilized - ha! until this past weekend i was running a PII 233MHz on 64MB of RAM. i'll post a thread for my new computer tonight. it's so sexy it deserves its own.

              I have a 1.7Ghz P4 Dell.

Its got 256mb of DDR (needs more, real bad.)

              Geforce 4 mx440 AGP 8x, 128mb.

              18.6GB HD

I have a Montego II soundcard hooked up to a Hafler 220 power amp with four 8" woofers and 2 high range tweeters, two mid/high range tweeters.

Its pretty nice, but needs more ram and a mouse that actually works!!! @#$*W(@$ damn mouse!!

My truck is louder than yours. A lot louder.

                  O really? Care to race

Name your benchmark, a 3.0ghz P4 Will run circles around your proccessor. Not to burst your bubble or anything, its still a nice comp. And great bang for the buck.

hehe. i'd have to agree with xmetal but i believe when falcon said "stock" he was thinking of pre-builts like dell and such. either that or he just has no clue.
