AO: We are back from the dead... again! After an 18 day outage, we are finally alive and well. Who knew how complicated updating software/databases from 2008 would be. I still have alot of tweaks to make, but my main goal was getting everything patched and updated to 2026.
Vbulletin 6 has changed alot since 2008 so we will have a ton of new features to dig into.
Interesting case happened in CA after the Loma Prieta (sp?) earthquake.
A citizen (non-cop) was directing traffic at an intersection where the stoplight was out. Someone shot and killed the citizen directing traffic. The courts eventually decided the killer could be charged as though the victim was a cop since the man directing traffic was acting as a law officer. I've also heard of (much much older) cases where non-LE members of a posse where considered LE since they where acting as LE.
"What we have to accomplish at this time is all the more clear: relentless criticism of all existing conditions, relentless in the sense that the criticism is not afraid of its findings and just as little afraid of the conflict with the powers that be."
- Karl Marx
Personally, I don't think that, given the exact same situations, killing a police officer as opposed to a normal citizen should warrant any increase in penalty. I honestly don't believe that a police officer's life is worth more than any others.
Now, I'm going to bring up another topic; Very simmilar.
I do believe that if a crime that is committed is labled as a "Hate Crime" then the sentance/punishment can be increased.
I do not agree with this either. If you kill a man because of the color of his skin, or his sexual orientation, it's killing a man. Why he decided to kill someone shouldn't really play an issue.
