I just started listening to them and they're pretty good. Pink Floyd. I think they were high when they wrote most of their music because some of it sounds pretty wierd.

sid barret the first bass player was institutionalized
roger waters has some deep seated problems that really started showing there face with "the wall" and kind of really got out of hand two albums later. it gets boring when every song on a double album has to do with the bass players psychological problems. but roger is the king of understated, hooky fretless bass lines.

but pink floyd is great nonetheless, i dont listen to them anymore, kind of burned out on them back around 1985.

but if you are serious thats cool they were quite awesome in many ways. suggested listening(actually mandatory):
a nice pair
meddle
animals
dark side of the moon
wish you were here

Yes, Pink Floyd has been around forever but its better than todays "Rock".(My Opinion)

When I started listening to Pink Floyd my uncle gave me a couple Led Zeppelin CDs, I guess he figured if I like one I'd like the other. If you haven't already you should give them a try, they're really good.
