Hehe! Would be cool to see ppl blow up and stuff, but from an in game stand point, players will just avoid it. In TFC, players might just try to conc across it or rocket jump so to avoid any type of terrain damage that could do more harm to them while on the way to the enemy base.

When you design a level or a map, you don't want to encourage players to avoid that area or else that's wasted time and effort put into it. A level must have compelling gameplay elements, be balanced if it's going to be used for tournament play, or just have a logical flow to it if there are puzzle elements.

However, in Enemy Territory, the enemy can lay down land mines within the terrain. You are warned if you're around land mines but unless your engineer uses his binoculars to locate them, they will remain hidden from the in game map. In this case, land mines work out because it can be random and detected/defused.

But don't listen to me. I just love to ramble about games.
