why do ya'll think about the Nissan Sentra?

Specifically the 97 Sentra. Its got 50,000 miles or so on it. Not sure what kind of condition its in. I'll see it on Wed. Any habitual problems? How much is it worth?

    Thanks.

Nissans are great cars in general, I love Maximas. Very reliable.

The Sentra is around $2,000 right? Check blue books on it..

That's just a little over 7000 miles a year, not bad at all. Sentra's have been around for a while now, and have proven dependable. Not a lot of power, or performance, but that's not what it was built for.

I put 17,000 on my '96 Ranger in it's first year! It now has 183,000+ on it

Where are you guys gettin $2000? Is that how much you say its worth?

Kelly's BB has it around $5,000 (assuming it's in good condition-I won't buy it if it isn't).

            I have a 99 with a 140K. I love it. I plan on hitting 200K before 2005.
The only thing I know of is there is a cold weather valve that can cause it to flood in the really cold weather. I believe the replacement part is far superior and rarely fails after that.

              <---car guy,
never look at KBB. Most of the time the KBB value isnt even close to the real world. go to www.edmunds.com and do a custom quote for the car you want to buy.

                ditto that..

and even better.. go to a local dealership and ask them if you can use (i dont think they will actually let you remove the book from the dealership) their NADA book. or, pick one of your own up. helpful little used car pricing booklet.

My kid has one. Nissan four bangers are excellent. Consistently see them go 200K. The Sentra is a fine little car.

Underpowered obviously...but if its stick its not so bad.

The new sports edition sentra with the 6 spd is obviously gorgeous and a really nice performing little car...but thats obviously a bit much because its brand new. ...still relatively cheap though, high teens for a nice little 'sports' compact.

I don't agree its underpowered. Its pushing around only like 2000 pounds. That 1.6L is pretty strong realy. even in auto it will get up and go real quick. I am not affraid to get out in front of someone and accelerate out of trouble with it. Course the 2.4L in the Altima is nice but that car is heavier than the Sentra too. There is a SE version of the Sentra that has a 2.0L in it. All very well made engines. And the trannies are solid as well.

here is my kids 2001 Sentra that he has now. This one replaced the 96 Altima he totaled last winter.

Or wait is the newer Sentra's 1.8L engines? I think they used to be 1.6 but then are now 1.8L stock I think. Not sure.

Here is another view of the Sentra...

I dont think it is that light, my miata weighs in around 2560 w/ me in it.

                          still good cars.

my brother has one, its old tho. It's a crap wagon, but it still runs, which is amazing. I'm not sure how many miles on it, 100+, but it still moves. The rear window sorta just "fell out" one day, but that remains a mystery.

I will have to take a look at the door plate or something. Its not realy much more than a Miata would be realy... But still under 3K I am pretty certain of that. I remember reading it on there somewhere a while back but cannot recall the exact number. Suprisingly quick little things they are though I do know that.
