there called xr 50s honda makes them. they are designed for little kids that are like 2-7 years old but so many people make aftermarket parts you can make them work great for a guy whos over 200 pounds.

my other bike is an 85' Honda CB650 SC Nighthawk. I carry theft on the ZX, but liability is all you really need.

                    re 600 too fast.....

Cliffio....i agree. The new 600 are just about track ready out the door nowadays. My thinking there is if he is buying new, the price point along with the resale value IMHO is too close to buy anything less. Hopefully, he can keep his head about him and learn on the six in that case.

A better option would be to buy something older. An old Honda F3 is a great bike, can be picked up really cheap, and is much more forgiving and easy to ride than the current crop of 600's out there.

Your first year of riding is really rough on a new bike. Close gear ratios and engines that have 15k redlines take time to learn how to ride right...Im sure as a new rider my tranny suffered that first year. Ride the h3ll out of a used bike like and F3 or EX500, and then sell it in year to someone like yourself and buy new after you have some miles under your belt.

Let that used bike take those little drops in the driveway that we all eventually have :P

not only are you rough on a first bike, but if you lay it down or drop it in a drive way, guess what, the value of that new bike drops quite a bit, depending of course on how bad, but i myself bought my zx-6r used, its not my first bike, i learned on an 82 kawi ltd 750 not the perfect bike, but i only paid 800 bucks for it, so you cant beat that.

but i would agree that an f3, or maybe an even older f2 would be a perfect first bike. still pretty sporty looking and still rather quick but not like a brand new r6

I just wanted to second this statment. Always wear your gear. They make Kelvar lined jeans if you don't want the look of chaps, or ride in leathers.

I'd also suggest a cheap 80's bike for a starter bike, since you can get them for mighty cheap, and they'll have plenty of power, and you won't feel bad when you drop it at a standstill because you forgot the sidestand. or say, when you back it into a garage that has a 3 inch rise...

most people trick them out and use them for pit bikes and they have races for them. i dunno the tops speed but they have tons of power andtorque for there size.
