I got an international money order

Hey, has anyone had an international money order before? I got one from a guy in IL ( ) and I cant find a place to cash it, other than a bank. The problem is, our bank is in washington DC. Do you know if any bank will cash it even if you arent a member of it?

No one in Illionois should be sending you an International Money Order. Odds are he bought it from 7-11 or something of that ilk. It is probably payable through a US bank. What currency is it in? Dollars, Euros, Pesos, etc..

Look on the bottom of the money order? Is their a nine digit number starting with 0, 1, or 2? If so, that is called a routing/transit/ABA number and that will tell you what Federal reserve district that bank belongs to? If not, you will need to deposit it at your bank for what is called special collections. It will take 1 to 4 weeks to process then. If it has a routing number, then just deposit it in your bank and wait the 1 to 7 days your bank needs to clear it.

The only place that will cash it is a Check Cashing company. You need to be of legal age and willing to pay an outragous fee to utilize that service, so again I say just deposit it!
