    I hate Emmisions

I went to Emissions. I worked there for about 2 weeks. As I watched them they did all kinds of things to cheat the test to try and make the car fail but the car passed. I said a little prayer while I was there.

They were unable to drive the vehicle drive trace on the car so they put it on the tail pipe test.

When the car was ideling they reved it to try and make it fail but it passed anyway. (Theres a screen that says rev engine 2500 RPM, but they put it at about 4000 or 5000 RPM.) The car sounded really good despite its age.

These people are sad bitter little people and I hope someday we dont need this test or they make it fair. AS it stands not everyone has to take it. So Im driving a 4 Cyl Ford Escort and someone with a BMW or city bus does not have to take it.

The excuse for buses and deisel behicles is that a large company cannot afford it. If large companies cant afford it. How am I supposed to afford it?

Anyway my mom bought parts and I put them on. It was $10 for an air filter and spark plugs. I also got a replacement antennae and a new tie rod. SOmething is wrong with the Power steering unit and I could use some more parts but I will get them when Im working.

One of the reasons I belive they are trying to do away with all the old cars is so that the government can put tracking devices in all the new cars. This is done through RFID, Cell Phones, Northstar and some other programs. The government wants to know where all the drivers are at all times. This cannot be done with old cars.

One solutions would be for me to move out of state where they do not have this program. Bill could probably avoid (HUMVEE?) it by getting Kentucky tags for his cars in California. And than Id say Bill modify the car anyway you want.

    Un Chuffing beliveable.

What kind of cheating are you referring to? The place I take my cars to are really helpful so lets be fair and not give them all the label of being "sad bitter little people". When I took my wife's car early one morning the guy told me that he didn't think it would pass beacuse the catalytic converter wasn't hot enough so he let the car warm up on the rollers before he did the test.

In Cali, if you have mods on your engine, you must display the CARB EO sticker saying that the part is smog legal. I have a header that was pre-CARB EO and technically he can't test/pass my car without it, but he lets me side.

I don't know the laws in your state but in Cali, pre 1974 cars are smog exempt. So maybe look into getting a classic.

        Maryland is subcontracted.

California has had emmisions testing for longer than Maryland.

Good conspiracy theory. I like it. I think its the inspection sticker that contains the GPS tracking chip though. That way every car needs one. But yes the GOV is trying to get rid of old cars. probably before they created the radio control mechanism that comes in all new cars so the gov can control it. P.S. I wasnt makin fun a you I just love conspiracey theorys.

I know of test centers up here that will try as hard as they can to make a vehicle pass.
My pos 83 Dodge went through emissions last year and passed with just an idle mixture adjustment. This was with 5 year old plugs, wires, cap and rotor, plus once a year oil changes. Yes I drive it as hard as the old leaning tower of power will let me. Our favorite comment whenever you step on the gas is " No balls". There are cracks radiating through the floors away from the frame rails from over stressing the body and suspension, and yet it just keeps going, ( I really should break out the mig and weld them up soon).

My closet gas station will try their best to FAIL old cars in emmisions. They went INTO the engine and ripped open a rubber 4 way thing that made the emmisions skyrocket in our 84 suburban. Some reason I cant remember what its called... agh I feel like a n00b

That same gas station broke our water pump intentionally in our 98 grand prix as well, wrench marks and everything, so we would need to service it there later, im sure you're familiar with the scam

Luckiliy my dad was a mechanic and he fixed both the suburban (and gave their manager hell), and our car by ourselves. We fix most things ourselves because the service in the area is beyond crappy. (Northern VA has such a high cost of living that mechanics have to cheat to live here... it sucks, same way with other lower income services)

A state police report has been filed but I know of nothign that has hapepned yet

It sounds like Emisions testing can be a good or bad thing depending on where you live.

I tuned the car myself but if I had to goto a "certifed" Station they would have charged an arm and a leg. I also tuned a car for a friend when I was your guys age.

I worked on the emissions testing program that Florida had (emissions went down so much that the Fed Gov let them stop doing it?). Anyway, we did not care if you car passed or failed. Actually passing was better beacuse we could do more cars. Anyway, a way to get an old car to pass was to hit the gas. Cars usally produce more emmissions at idle.

They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.

I would like to think the reason why they do emissions testing AND safety checks (Mass has one of the toughest emissions standards) is so you don't KILL anyone on the road. Just a thought - I like to think they are trying to make sure the car is safe If the car fails emissions there is something defintely wrong with it and should be checked out.. ya know?

No because regardless of if the cars are safe they test them. Testing the cars does not require a safety inspection. They just put them on some rollers and spin them according to the vehicle drive trace.

Okay well you goto a "Certified Emissions Testing Station." They put your cars on rollers, press a button and drive it. The computer spits out a test or fail sheet. If you pass you get to keep your car and if you dont get heavily fined like a criminal.
