PC problem - won't burn CDs

OK, here's what's going on. I'll throw a blank CD in there, and it says there's nothing in the drive. What gives? Thanks in advance.
I'm nothing more than text to you...

    need more info

    what software are you running??
tell us something about your system.
if you are using directcd by adaptec than that may be the problem. i had trouble with it after a while of working ok. it wouldnt recognize any cd i put in blank or otherwise after a while. try uninstalling reinstalling your cd burning software and see if that helps.

WHile this is also an extreme case, if you are running windows 2000 or XP Pro, there is a patch that enables Nero to allow you read/write access to CD-R drives...

But yeah i've seen CD-R software go boobies up for no reason, and just need a nice re-install.

BUt yes, I think the adaptec Direct CD thingy is screwing you up.
